In retro news, I’m celebrating the 19th birthday Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, a criminally underplayed third-person platformer / FPS hybrid. The titular Stranger was a unique and unorthodox bounty hunter who opted to use aggressive mini-critters as ammo in lieu of bullets. Visionary creator Lorne Lanning not only considers this adventure to be “the best game he’s ever made,” but also suggested its lack of commercial success was due to EA not ponying up a marketing budget. Whatever happened, this cult-hit exclusive jewel in the original Xbox’s crown is worth huntin’ down in HD Remaster form.
