Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Will Be Written by Loki Creator as Approach Reportedly Remains in Flux
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty officially has its writer even as virtually everything else about the film remains in flux. Deadline reports that Loki Season 1 writer Michael Waldron will pen the new film, seemingly taking over for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania scribe Jeff Loveness, who was previously tipped to write the film. IGN has confirmed with a source close to the production that Waldron will write both Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
The news comes after Joanna Robinson, who wrote MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, said on a recent episode of the House of R podcast that Loveness was no longer working with Marvel, due to him being “wrapped up” in their initial approach of Kang. Loveness wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which featured Kang in an extremely prominent role. Loveness has written a draft of the script, IGN hears, but it’s unclear how much of it will be used.
Disney did not comment on Loveness’ current status on Kang Dynasty.
Little else is known about Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which has become highly uncertain amid reports of a pivot away from Jonathan Majors’ Kang in favor of Doctor Doom. Destin Daniel Cretton, who was originally set to direct the film, stepped away from the film last week. Majors remains mired in an ongoing domestic violence case, leading Disney to reconsider its plans for Phase 6.
With Phase 6 being delayed, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently eyeing a May 1, 2026 release date, meaning its quite far off. Disney is currently laying the groundwork for The Fantastic Four, with reports recently emerging that Pedro Pascal will play the role of Reed Richards. It’ll be interesting to see which direction Waldron takes Phase 6. His most recent turn with the MCU generated its share of controversy owing to its major heel turn, which led him to apologize to fans.
