The debut trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man has given fans their first look at Jack Kesy’s version of the big red hero.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is a superhero horror film based on the iconic character created by Mike Mignola. It reboots Hellboy once again, this time with a screenplay co-written by Mignola based on The Crooked Man limited series and directed by Brian Taylor (Crank).

Kesy, who played Black Tom Cassidy in Deadpool 2, assumes the title role in a story set in 1950s rural Appalachia. Hellboy and a rookie BPRD (the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) agent played by Adeline Rudolph discover a small community haunted by witches led by the mysterious The Crooked Man.
Kesy is the third actor to play Hellboy in live-action form, following on from David Harbour’s 2019 effort and, most famously, Ron Perlman’s take in the mid-to-late 2000s films directed by Guillermo del Toro.
As we can see from the trailer, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is unlike the previous films in the series, with disturbing images of creepy figures including The Crooked Man itself giving off deep horror vibes.
“The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form,” said Millennium’s president Jeffrey Greenstein when it was announced.
“This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. Brian Taylor is an expert across the board, and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life to show our audience this different and original Hellboy slate of films.”
