Alien: Romulus’ Bloody First Trailer Revealed, Featuring So Many Facehuggers

To dive deeper into the trailer, check out our interview with Fede Alvarez here.

The first trailer for director/co-writer Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus is here, and so is a whole entire horde of Facehuggers.

It’s a brief one-minute look at the upcoming standalone film, but we can glean a few details. We get a look at a bloody space station, the aforementioned group of Facehuggers, and a quick glimpse at a Xenomorph right at the end. We also see star Cailee Spaeny, who will be following in Sigourney Weaver’s footsteps in dealing with a whole lot of unwelcome space guests.

Watch the trailer below.

A new poster was also revealed, which you can see here:

The film was first revealed back in March 2022 with Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead (2013) director Álvarez at the helm. At the time, it was reported that Álvarez’s pitch, largely unconnected to the previous movies in the series, had rattled around in Alien director Ridley Scott’s head for years. Scott is also credited as a producer on Romulus.

We do know that Romulus is set in between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). We learned a little bit more about the plot of the new Alien film when Disney’s 20th Century Studios released a synopsis last year, although even that is still pretty vague:

“In this ninth entry in the immensely popular and enduring film series, a group of young people on a distant world find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Joining Mare of Easttown star Spaeny in the cast is David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.

Alien: Romulus will hit theaters on August 16, 2024.
