All Masks In Ghost Of Yotei And How To Get Them
Are you excited to acquire all masks in Ghost of Yotei? These items are scattered all throughout the lands of Ezo in northern Japan, which means you need to trek to various regions just to find all of them. Our guide has all the details that you need, but be forewarned that we’ve included a few minor spoilers, too.
Where to find all masks in Ghost of Yotei
There are dozens of masks in the game. Similar to helmets and weapon kits–i.e. sheathes–these items are purely cosmetic in nature. They don’t provide any advantages to gameplay. Still, they’re worth collecting, especially if you want to eliminate your opponents in style.
We should also mention that masks can be obtained from various sources:
- General exploration – Some masks are found inside chests or are out in the open.
- Landmarks – A select few landmarks, puzzles, and points-of-interest reward you with masks, too.
- Armors and upgrades – A few armor pieces come with their own masks. However, it’s also possible to unlock new masks by upgrading a gear piece via Ginji the Armorsmith.
- Bosses and bounty targets – Specific enemies and members of the Yotei Six drop masks once defeated.
- Onryo Gift Altars – You could receive certain rewards as you progress through the campaign.
- Vendors and recolors – Some vendors also sell masks in exchange for flowers. That said, most of these are recolored versions of the ones that you already own.
In any case, our Ghost of Yotei masks guide is organized per region. We start in Yotei Grasslands, followed by Ishikari Plain. Then we move on to items that can be collected in Tokachi Range, Nayoro Wilds, Teshio Ridge, Oshima Coast, and the game’s finale.
Blessing of the Wolf Mask
You automatically receive this item if you preordered the game.
Snake Skin Mask
You automatically receive this item if you own the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game.
The Snake’s Mask
You obtain this Ghost of Yotei mask very early in the campaign. Just beat the Snake member of the Yotei Six during the prologue.
Sapphire Wings Mask
Found inside a chest in the northern bank of Lake Kuttara.
Yokai in Snow Mask
Go to the eastern bank of Sarubetsu River and look for a pit with a ladder. Open the chest to receive this reward.
Fearless Mischief Mask
Go to the Windy Meadow and find a “Familiar Location”–i.e. a large tree trunk next to another tree with golden leaves. Relive Atsu’s memory and investigate the well along with Jubei. Then, back at the present, check the well to pick up this cosmetic item.
Black Powder Ippei’s Mask
Defeat the bounty target, Black Powder Ippei, in Yotei Grasslands.
Bounty Master Mask
Complete all bounties in Yotei Grasslands to unlock another target: Soma the Condemned. Beating this opponent actually nets you the Bounty Master Armor. To unlock the mask, you need to upgrade the Bounty Master Armor to level 2.
Toshi the Torch Mask
Defeat the bounty target, Toshi the Torch, in Ishikari Plain.
Blue Yamauba Mask
Defeat the bounty target, Blue Yamauba, in Ishikari Plain.
Eijiro the Ruthless’ Mask
Defeat the bounty target, Eijiro the Ruthless, in Ishikari Plain.
Turtle Man Kamekichi’s Mask
Although Turtle Man Kamekichi is a bounty target, you don’t actually fight him in battle. Instead, you need to travel to Nohoro Cave, which is northeast of Nakagoya Spring. At the end of the tunnel, you’ll find a wounded Kamekichi. Chat with him while encamped and, soon enough, he’ll succumb to his wounds.
Sly Thief Mask
To acquire this Ghost of Yotei mask, you must complete all bounty-related activities in Ishikari Plain. This unlocks a new target: Shiro the Swindler. Go to the cliffside area near Jigoku Fortress to meet with Shiro, who tells you about all the money in the base. This leads to a side quest called “The Great Jigoku Gambit.”
Eliminate the hostiles and their commander. When you’re done, you’ll realize that Shiro was true to his name. He made off with all the cash, but he did leave his mask behind.
Mask of the Prideful
The next set of Ghost of Yotei masks all come from the same gear set. It’s none other than the Armor of the Undying. Once you obtain the Armor of the Undying in Ishikari Plain, you’ll notice that the set also includes the Mask of the Prideful.
Mask of the Punished
Upgrade the Armor of the Undying to level 2 to unlock this item.
Mask of the Undying
Upgrade the Armor of the Undying to level 4, the maximum rank, to unlock this reward.
Shattered Demon Mask
Complete the Bamboo Strike activity outside Oni’s Breath Inn. It’s at the eastern part of the Ishikari Plain region.
Flame Burst Mask
Found inside a chest in Mad Goro’s Camp in White Deer Woodlands. It’s near the Smoky Mountain Hot Spring in the northeastern part of the zone. Note that you actually visit this area at the end of a main quest called “A Mad Pursuit.”
Mercenary’s Mask
You automatically receive this item as part of the main quest arc in Ishikari Plain. During the “Belly of the Beast” mission, Atsu will wear this as part of her disguise.
The Oni’s Mask
Defeat the Oni boss, a member of the Yotei Six, and conclude “The Tale of the Oni” main quest in Ishikari Plain.
Inokichi the Hungry’s Mask
Defeat the bounty target, Inokichi the Hungry, in Tokachi Range.
Dragonfly’s Bite Mask
You can obtain a couple of Ghost of Yotei masks once you have the Dragonfly Armor, which comes from a side quest in Tokachi Range. Upgrade this gear piece to level 2 to unlock the item.
Dragonfly’s Kill Mask
Later, if you upgrade the Dragonfly Armor to level 4, you’ll also acquire this extra mask.
Spider Lily Mask
You need to put in a bit of effort if you want the Spider Lily Armor, which also comes from Tokachi Range. It entails exploring a haunted estate to find several keys with symbols, followed by bringing peace to the soul of the Spider Lily General. Assuming you have the resources, you should upgrade the equipment to level 4 to unlock this unique mask, too.
Mask of Freedom
A reward for completing the Free Skies Sumi-e Painting in Tokachi Range. It’s in an open field west of Huranui’s Rest Inn.
Mask of Community
A reward for completing the Peaceful Kotan Sumi-e Painting in Nayoro Wilds. It’s on a towering rock formation overlooking the Husko Kotan settlement.
Tengai Hat
The Tengai Hat is one of the most unique masks in Ghost of Yotei–mostly because it makes you look like you’re wearing a basket on your head. That, and because it’s supposed to be a “hat,” but it’s considered a “mask” anyway.
That said, you can obtain it by heading directly west from Husko Kotan. You should see several rock formations in the area. You need to climb and grapple until you reach the very top.
Climber’s Frost Mask
Found at the top of a rock formation overlooking Red Crane Inn, your main hub in the Teshio Ridge region. It’s fairly close to the other hill that has an Altar of Reflection.
Mask of Slumber
A reward for completing the Frozen Moment Sumi-e Painting in Teshio Ridge. It’s directly across the Black Dye Vendor at Teshio River.
Yotei’s Mercy Mask
A reward for completing the Reliquary of Compassion Puzzle in Teshio Ridge. Make sure you’ve upgraded your Hankyu Bow so you can shoot fire arrows. Then, make the trek to Chilled Peak Shrine in the northern part of the zone.
Near the top of the shrine path, you should see a fork that leads to the Reliquary area to the left. To solve the puzzle, shoot the lanterns with your fire arrows. Then, rotate the wolf pedestals so they all face the large rock in the center.
Nine Tail Acolyte Mask
You automatically receive the Nine Tail Armor upon concluding the “Blood on the Snow” main quest in Teshio Ridge. The armor set also includes the mask itself.
The Kitsune’s Mask
Continue further into the campaign until you defeat the Kitsune member of the Yotei Six. The item should pop up in your inventory at the end of a main quest called “The Kitsune’s Fate.”
War Cry Mask
While exploring Teshio Ridge, you might come across curious-looking contraptions known as Puzzle Boxes. There are 12 of these and each one has a specific solution. Opening the twelfth and final container nets you this prize. You can learn about all the details in our Nine Tails Puzzle Boxes guide.
Ginji’s Guard Mask
This is part of the Ginji’s Guard Armor full set. Make your way to Benten Port in Oshima Coast and talk to your armorsmith buddy. This leads to a side quest called “Pride Before Tea.” Finish the quest to claim this reward, which is pretty much a defensive gear piece that lets you deflect bullets.
Onryo Mask
Atsu will automatically wear this item near the conclusion of a main quest called “To Catch a Spider.” It’s part of the Oshima Coast arc.
Ashen Blood Mask
To obtain this Ghost of Yotei mask, complete the main quests in Oshima Coast until you have to return to Yotei Grasslands. This begins Chapter 3: The Cost of Revenge. Check the Onryo Gift Altar in any settlement to receive this item.
Onryo’s Fury Mask
Defeat the Spider in “Call of the Hunt” during Chapter 3. Then, revisit the Old Inn in Yotei Grasslands and interact with the Onryo Gift Altar. A cutscene will trigger, and several NPCs will hand you this item.
