All the game announcements and trailers from The Game Awards 2024

An avalanche of new game announcements hit at The Game Awards 2024, ranging from the return of classic franchises (Okami, Turok, Virtua Fighter) to the reveals of all-new worlds (Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic, something new from Fumito Ueda). Naughty Dog’s new game Intergalactic: The Heretic Project revealed
The Last of Us and Uncharted developer Naughty Dog returns with an all-new property: Intergalactic: The Heretic Project. Set thousands of years in the future, according to the game’s official description, Intergalactic will put players in the role of Jordan A. Mun, “a bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.” Naughty Dog’s new game, directed by Neil Druckmann, has been in development since 2020.
Elden Ring: Nightreign announced, a new co-op multiplayer spinoff
FromSoftware is returning to Elden Ring with a new cooperative multiplayer spinoff that’s not Elden Ring 2, but something different. Elden Ring: Nightreign will be released in 2025 for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms.
The Witcher 4, starring Ciri, revealed
CD Projekt Red reveals the next game in The Witcher franchise, which serves as the start of a new saga for the studio. The Witcher 4 will start Ciri as its protagonist and… well, just watch the extremely impressive six-minute debut trailer for CD Projekt’s next big title.
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus director Fumito Ueda’s next game teased
The long-awaited next game from game director Fumito Ueda — the creator behind Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian — has been revealed. Currently untitled, but working under the name Project: Robot, Ueda and his studio Gen Design teased a game that involves a giant mech and a tiny pilot, and what appears to be some world-ending disaster.
Borderlands 4 gets its official first look
Gearbox Software’s long-awaited new Borderlands game got its first real trailer at The Game Awards. Borderlands 4 promises to be “the most ambitious Borderlands game yet” when it launches in 2025. According to the game’s official description, players will battle the Timekeeper, “a ruthless dictator who dominates the masses from on high. Now a world-altering catastrophe threatens his perfect Order, unleashing mayhem across the planet. Ignite a resistance and blast your way through mechanical monstrosities, bloodthirsty bandits, and vicious beasts. Amass an arsenal of death-dealing firepower to wreak havoc as you tear your way across Kairos.”
Okami is back, and so is Hideki Kamiya
Capcom is finally making a sequel to Okami, the 2006 action-adventure game inspired by The Legend of Zelda and Japanese folklore. In an even bigger surprise, Okami game director Hideki Kamiya — formerly of PlatinumGames — is working on it at a new Capcom studio named Clovers, the sequel of sorts to the shuttered Clover Studio.
Pac-Man goes dark in Shadow Labyrinth
If you caught Pac-Man’s Secret Level episode on Prime Video, you’re prepared for Bandai Namco’s new, darker take on the dot-chomping ghost. A 2D action platformer, Shadow Labyrinth is definitely a swerve for the character, who celebrates his 45th birthday in 2025.
Outer Wilds 2 first gameplay reveal
Obsidian Entertainment offered a cheeky new look at next year’s sequel to The Outer Worlds, promising “an action-packed adventure in a new colony with an even newer crew and the newest graphics.” The Outer Worlds 2 is out in 2025.
Virtua Fighter 6 confirmed
It’s finally happening: Sega is releasing a new, numbered entry in its Virtua Fighter fighting game series. Virtua Fighter 6 is coming with some familiar faces, but we’ll have to wait for developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios’ VF Direct 2024 for more details. The extremely prolific RGG Studio also teased another game, Project Century, which looks like a violent, turn-of-the-20th-century spin on the Like A Dragon series.
Split Fiction from It Takes Two creators
Hazelight Studios, the developer of smash hits It Takes Two and A Way Out, is taking an even more ambitious stab at the two-player co-op adventure genre with Split Fiction.
Capcom teases a new Onimusha game
Capcom’s Onimusha samurai-action series will return with Onimusha: Way of the Sword in 2026. That will make it 20 years since that last new mainline entry in the franchise, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. The new Onimusha will be set in Kyoto during the early Edo period, where the city has been “transformed by the nefarious Malice with monstrous enemies known as Genma stalking the area around.”
Sonic Racing is back!
Shadow the Hedgehog — and, presumably, Sonic the Hedgehog — are getting behind the wheel for a new racing game called Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. That’s literally all we know right now.
Mafia: The Old Country gets a new narrative trailer
2K and Hangar 13 offered an expansive look at their new mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily in a new narrative trailer for Mafia: The Old Country. That new entry in the Mafia franchise is coming in summer 2025.
A new… Turok?!
Saber Interactive revealed Turok: Origins, a brand-new entry in the dinosaur-battling action shooter series. As Turok warriors, players will battle in co-op or single-player combat and harvest enemies’ DNA to power themselves up “to unravel mysteries that hold the key to saving humanity.” Turok: Origins is coming to PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
The Illuminates come to Helldivers 2
The ancient Illuminate civilization return in a new update for Helldivers 2. In the new Omens of Tyranny update, Helldivers will protect new colonies, face new enemies, ride FRVs, and engage in urban warfare on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound coming from Blasphemous devs
Koei Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden franchise returns, but this time as a throwback side-scroller, thanks to Blasphemous developer The Game Kitchen and DotEmu. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound sees Ryu Hayabusa away in America, and while he’s away, Hayabusa Village becomes infested with demons. Young ninja Kenji Mozu steps up to save his and Ryu’s home in the new Ninja Gaiden game, coming in summer 2025.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming to PC
The second chapter in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 remake project is coming to Windows PC on Jan. 23, 2025.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is also coming to PC
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 is coming to Windows PC on April 3, 2025, with graphical enhancements, gameplay modes like the roguelike survival experience No Return and Guitar Free Play, full DualSense controller integration, and more, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed at The Game Awards.
A new Tekken 8 fighter from the world of Final Fantasy
Tekken 8’s roster is about to get bigger, with the addition of new DLC fighter: Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy 16! Twist!! Clive will be playable in Tekken 8 starting Dec. 16.
Warren Spector’s stealth game Thick As Thieves announced
From OtherSide Entertainment comes Thick As Thieves, a new PvPvE stealth-action multiplayer game. From the game’s official description, you will “Chart your rise to master thief in a glittering, gloomy 1910s metropolis blending industry, magic and intrigue. Your choices unlock unique playstyles and strategies that shape your thief character.” Thick As Thieves is due sometime in 2026.
A first look at Slay the Spire 2 gameplay
Mega Crit’s sequel to it roguelike deckbuilder, Slay the Spire 2, made a welcome appearance at The Game Awards, showing off the game’s newly evolved Spire, new and returning characters, and an arsenal of new cards, relics, and potions.
Dying Light: The Beast gets a new trailer
Techland revealed a new trailer for Dying Light: The Beast, introducing a character named the Baron — described as “the biggest threat Kyle Crane has ever faced” — and a release window of summer 2025.
Core Keeper devs reveal new game Kyora
Pugstorm announced its next game, Kyora, a 2D sandbox adventure for 1-8 players that will send players to “a realm of ruins, where every pixel is a tool to create something new.” Players will mine resources, craft physics wands, battle powerful bosses, and build a base by terraforming the world around them.
Steel Hunters, the new mech game from the World of Tanks team
Wargaming, the game developer behind World of Tanks and World of Warships, is exploring heavy metal in a new way with Steel Hunters, a new, free-to-play, mech hero shooter that blends battle royale and extraction shooter mechanics. There’s a playtest, which you can sign up for at Steam.
Sifu devs reveal Rematch, a surprise soccer game
Certainly one of the most unexpected reveals at The Game Awards was the next title from Sifu and Absolver developer Sloclap. They’re making an online multiplayer football soccer game called Rematch, which the studio says “utilizes lessons learned about precise, dynamic movement from Sloclap’s previous titles,” including Sifu. Rematch is coming to consoles and PC in 2025.
Overcooked creators give us Stage Fright
The cooperative mayhem of Overcooked is getting a new spin with Stage Fright, a spooky new multiplayer game from developer Ghost Town Games. The developer (and publisher Hello Games!) describe Stage Fright as “a co-operative experience, bursting with Overcooked-style chaotic moments and escape room-esque co-operation.”
Superhero workplace comedy Dispatch announced
Dispatch is a superhero workplace comedy where choices matter, and it has a stacked cast, with Aaron Paul, Jeffrey Wright, and Laura Bailey leading the list of voice actors contributing to AdHoc Studio’s original game.
Racing game experts Milestone revive Screamer
MotoGP developer Milestone is bringing back the Screamer franchise of racing games, which it developed in the early ’90s, when the studio was still known as Grafitti. The new Screamer will have an anime edge, thanks to animation studio Polygon Pictures, and the voice of Troy Baker.
The First Berzerker: Khazan gets a release date
Nexon and developer Neople released a new cinematic trailer for The First Berserker: Khazan that was “supervised by the award-winning Russo Brothers,” announcing a March 27, 2025 release date for the action RPG on PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
