As Baldur’s Gate 3’s Player Count Surges In The Wake Of Its Last Patch, Larian Looks Toward The Future

The final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3 launched last week, introducing cross-platform play, 12 new subclasses, and loads of other little tweaks and fixes. The release of the long-awaited Patch 8 has led to a resurgence in popularity, with players flocking back to the game to try out the new subclasses and play with friends on other platforms for the first time. In the wake of Patch 8’s release, Larian Studios founder and CEO and Swen Vincke says he’s proud of the path the studio took to get the game where it is now, and hopes that its success will help Larian tackle its next game.

“Feeling good today about where we are with BG3,” Vincke said on Twitter (formally X), sharing a screenshot of the game’s Steam player count, which reached over 169,000 concurrent players following the latest update. “Patch 8 got a lot of people playing again. It took a lot of development effort but I’m happy we did it.”

“With mod support thriving, I think the game will now continue to do well for quite some time,” he added. “It gives us room to focus on making our next big thing as good as we can, and that focus is more than welcome. We’ve got big shoes to fill.”
