As The Marvels Rumours Ramp Up, Kevin Feige Says Fans Will See X-Men Hit Live Action ‘Perhaps… Soon’

Marvel Cinematic Universe boss Kevin Feige has fuelled rumours that the X-Men will soon make their live-action debut in the MCU, saying fans may get to see the long-awaited appearance “soon”.

Entertainment Tonight asked Feige about rumours that the X-Men will appear in The Marvels and the plan to introduce the famous team of mutant superheroes into live action, and here was his coy response:

“I don’t know if it’s delicate. It’s super exciting. But the X-Men are as solid and rich and great a concept and characters as exist. The return of the animated series next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today, which really bring it back to that core of who the X-Men are and that soap opera that those characters represent.

“And then in live action, people will see… perhaps soon.”

Feige’s comments come hot on the heels of the release of The Marvels’ final trailer, which fans believe hides a tease for the X-Men.

Spoilers for The Marvels and Ms. Marvel are ahead.

In the trailer, below, Monica Rambeau reveals “there’s a different reality bleeding into ours”. Fan speculation revolves around this line relating to the X-Men. We know Ms. Marvel is a mutant, per the ending of the Ms. Marvel TV show. And last month, a The Marvels trailer included the text “What Comes Next”, with all the letters fading out except for the letter X.

But eagle-eyed fans have spotted another possible X-Men hint in the trailer. The potential blink and you’ll miss it tease, which arrives at the 1 minute 45 seconds mark, is a small image on the bottom-right of a screen that looks like the classic X-Men logo. Or is it just a directional pad? Fans also think Storm from the X-Men is in the same shot, walking past Monica Rambeau in a suit that looks like it could belong to the famous mutant weather controller, once played by Halle Berry.

Entertainment Tonight mentioned Storm to Feige, who in typical fashion played his cards close to his chest. But if it’s not Storm, who is it? Perhaps it’s Monica’s mother, Maria Rambeau, who died from cancer two years after The Snap. We’re talking about a different reality bleeding into our own, after all.

Are the X-Men in The Marvels? Maybe. In the final The Marvels trailer, Nick Fury says: “They’re here.” Perhaps he’s talking about the X-Men, too. While we wait to find out, check out IGN’s The Marvels guide to everything you probably forgot by now.

Meanwhile, in the same interview with Entertainment Tonight, Feige denied discussing the return of fallen Avengers for future projects, although confirmed Marvel’s secret new project with Black Widow actor Scarlett Johansson is still in the works.

Last week, Variety reported that amid uncertainty over the current state of the MCU, Marvel executives apparently considered going back to its roots. One of the solutions that was reportedly considered was a new Avengers movie with the original cast.

That would, per the Variety report, include the returns of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow despite their deaths in Endgame. Marvel, however, reportedly hasn’t “committed” to this drastic proposal.

Yesterday, Feige denied even discussing the idea. “We did not discuss that, is the truth,” he said. “We’re doing a project with Scarlett. I love Robert. He’s a part of the family. But in terms of returning? We’ll have to see.”
