Blue Beetle is on its way to a digital and physical release, it’s been announced. Jaime Reyes’ adventure with the power of the titular scarab is coming to digital on September 26, and will land a physical edition on October 31.
The digital edition of the film will cost $24.99 to purchase, or $19.99 to rent for 48 hours and will be available widely on digital distribution platforms. A 4K UHD version that includes a digital copy will cost $29.99, a blu-ray + digital edition will be $24.99, and the DVD only is $19.99.
Physical editions will contain “Generations: Blue Beetle” a four-part documentary about the actors and filmmakers behind Blue Beetle, a featurette called Nana Knows Best following Nana’s transformation into a revolutionary, and a two-part featurette called Scarab Vision hosted by Xolo Maridueña, conducting scene study walkthroughs of how the scarab works.
We reviewed Blue Beetle and called it a “superhero movie that sets itself apart within the bloated genre through the deeply connected bonds of Jaime and the Reyes family,” giving it a 7/10. During its debut weekend, Blue Beetle managed to oust Barbie at the box office, but its ticket sales were an underwhelming $25.4 million despite praise from both critics and fans. Hopefully the digital release encourages more people to give the Reyes family’s superhero adventure a shot.
