Borderlands Movie Continues Disaster Run At Box Office With Another Very Bad Weekend

The Borderlands movie had a very bad first weekend in theaters and the second weekend had low numbers as well. Of course, most movies see drop-offs in the weeks after release, so this was always expected for Borderlands. It’s looking like another major 2024 flop, like Madame Web.

Borderlands earned $2.4 million in North America this past weekend, finishing No. 9 for the weekend, beating only the Hindi horror comedy Stree 2 ($2.2 million) in the top 10 list. Borderlands has now earned $13.5 million in total from North America and a further $5 million from international markets for a global total of $18.5 million.

The Borderlands movie reportedly had a production budget of $115 million and advertising and distribution costs of about $30 million. While Borderlands sounds like it might be a money-loser in the end, we don’t know that for sure. After all, about 60% of the Borderlands movie’s production costs were made back after the first weekend through pre-sales to international exhibitors.
