Call Of Duty Warzone’s First And Most Beloved Battle Royale Map Is Back Today With Warzone Mobile Launch
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Activision’s Call of Duty Warzone Mobile launches today, March 21. It’s not the first Call of Duty game on mobile, as Call of Duty Mobile has been out for years and has racked up huge player numbers, but Warzone Mobile features battle royale and multiplayer, and it has cross-progression with Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone on console and PC.
Also of note is that Warzone Mobile has two battle royale maps at launch, including the one that started it all–Verdansk. Four years ago this month, Activision launched Call of Duty: Warzone with Verdansk. It was eventually taken out of rotation on console and PC in favor of newer maps like Fortune’s Keep, Caldera, Urzikstan, and Vondel. In fact, Verdansk was removed from Warzone in 2021 and has never returned, until now in Warzone Mobile.
Whether or not Verdansk could ever return to Warzone on console/PC is unknown. But one would have to assume Activision saw the massive success Epic had when it brought back Fortnite’s OG map and would like something similar to happen with Warzone. Time will tell.
Warzone Mobile’s other battle royale map is Rebirth Island, a smaller-scale map with support for 48 players. Beyond battle royale, the game’s multiplayer mode has popular maps like Shoot House and Shipment, with the iconic playspace Rust set to arrive in April.

Warzone Mobile is developed by Activision’s internal studios whereas Call of Duty Mobile was made by TiMi. The older Call of Duty game for mobile will continue to be supported going ahead.
