Marvel star Chris Hemsworth has said he “didn’t stick the landing” with Thor: Love and Thunder and feels he owes fans another film.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Hemsworth said he became too wacky in Love and Thunder and the film suffered as a result, perhaps especially following Thor: Ragnarok, which became somewhat of a breakout success for the character by adding more comedy elements.
“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” Hemsworth said of the 2022 film. “I didn’t stick the landing.” He can’t forgive himself for the performance, Vanity Fair said, so feels he owes fans another film.
“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself.
IGN’s Thor: Love and Thunder review returned a 7/10. We said: “Thor: Love and Thunder is held back by a cookie-cutter plot and a mishandling of supporting characters, but succeeds as the MCU’s first romantic comedy thanks to Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman’s chemistry.”
The chance of Thor 5 happening previously seemed slim after Hemsworth, who’s already appeared in eight Marvel Cinematic Universe films, said he’s ready to “close the book” on the character. Director of Ragnarok and Love and Thunder Taika Waititi is also out due to a busy schedule.
Marvel has a fairly full plate at the moment, having already announced the entirety of its remaining Phase 5 plans and even Phase 6 already. The sacking of Jonathan Majors, who was due to be the MCU’s next big villain, will reportedly change things around considerably, however, and perhaps open some space for another Thor film. The only MCU movie to launch in 2024 is Deadpool and Wolverine.
