Deadpool & Wolverine continues to be a massive success for Marvel Studios, as Disney announced today that the superhero flick has become the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.

In a press release, Disney confirmed that in just 23 days, Deadpool & Wolverine accrued $1,085.6 billion at the global box office. These numbers were just enough for Deadpool & Wolverine to be the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, a title that was previously held by Todd Phillips’ 2019 movie Joker.

It’s little surprise that Deadpool & Wolverine eventually managed to cross that coveted $1 billion mark. It made $96 million on its opening day, becoming the sixth-highest opening day ever. The success continued throughout opening weekend to become the sixth-biggest domestic weekend box office opening of all time.

Deadpool & Wolverine is now the 31st film from Walt Disney Studios and the 11th from the MCU to join the $1 billion club at the global box office. It’s also the second Disney film released in 2024 to reach $1 billion following Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which hit theaters in May.

“People thought when Disney bought Marvel, ‘They’re going to shave off the hard edges. They’re going to make it all G-rated,'” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said in the press release. “Of course, that was never the intention.”

Feige also posted a thank you to fans on Marvel Entertainment’s social media accounts:
