Disney Reveals First Look Avatar Land Concept Art for Disneyland

During an annual Disney Shareholders meeting, CEO Bob Iger revealed a first look at the concept artwork for Disneyland’s Avatar Land.

“You’ve heard me mention before our intention to bring Avatar to Disneyland and our imagineers have been hard at work dreaming up what guests might expect,” Iger said in a pre-recorded video presentation. “And today, I’m today, I’m excited to give you a first look at the creative inspiration for this possible new destination.”

The look, while brief, showcased Disneyland attendees wandering through the caves of Pandora, flying on the backs of Ikrans through the world’s gravity-defying landscapes, and IRL footage of attendees touching the park’s neon blue bioluminescent forest floor.

Back in 2017, Disney released Pandora – The World of Avatar at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. Although the theme park expansion was released eight years after director James Cameron’s box-office-breaking film, IGN executive editor Eric Goldman sang high praise for Avatar Land, saying it was a “terrific experience, no matter your investment in the film that inspired it.”

Going off the brief look at Avatar Land, Disneyland’s version of the theme park expansion will be similar to its Disneyworld counterpart. Chief among the attractions showcased in the clip was the Flight of Passage ride (albeit in CGI) and the Na’vi River Journey. Hopefully the gap between Disneyland’s Avatar Land official release and Avatar: The Way of Water won’t be as vast as its predecessors and Cameron’s 2009 film.

The third Avatar film is slated to release on December 19, 2025, followed by Avatar 4 on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031.
