Emily Blunt is ‘so ready’ for an Edge of Tomorrow Sequel

Edge of Tomorrow star Emily Blunt is “so ready” for a sequel. During an interview with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Blunt admitted she’s just as eager to see Edge of Tomorrow 2 as everyone else. “I’m so ready,” she said. “I’m not the impediment, I promise.”

“I wish there could be one,” she said of a potential sequel, before confirming she has actually read a script for it. “There was one that Doug [Liman] slithered over to me and like… I would love to make it a reality, but I just don’t know when or how – how many Mission Impossibles does [Tom Cruise] need? Come on!”

Edge of Tomorrow stars Tom Cruise as Major Bill Cage, a public affairs officer with no combat experience who’s thrust into the middle of a last stand against an alien race known as the Mimics. It’s high-concept sci-fi with a unique hook; Cage is caught in a time loop as he lives, dies, and repeats to level the playing field against an unstoppable enemy. “Wasn’t he brilliant as the cowardly hero?” said Blunt of Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow character. Blunt starred as the kick-ass Sgt Vrataski, an altogether more capable fighter than Cruise’s Cage.

Although fans have been clamoring for a sequel since the film was released in 2014, there’s been little progress. However, Blunt did confirm she’s met with director Doug Liman to discuss a sequel: “He once said, ‘Hey, I’m flying to Martha’s Vineyard in my plane this weekend, maybe we could discuss The Edge of Tomorrow 2 on the plane?’ ” Liman, who like Cruise is a keen pilot, would have been in the cockpit.

Although Blunt is clearly still up for it, there’s still no word on whether Edge of Tomorrow 2 will get any further than mere talks.
