Everything PlayStation Showcase
Full List of Games Announced During PlayStation Showcase May 2023
Be still my beating heart.
Robots Over Dinosaurs was so excited to experience this showcase. It had tons of twists and turns, but it rarely left the middle of the road excluding a few games that demanded your attention.
First Attention Grabber: Phantom Blade 0 (Release: TBA)
Nothing grabs my attention like seeing a warrior parry and attack simultaneously. Little is known about this game, It is hard to tell if this is gameplay or a very well-rendered trailer. Phantom Blade 0 is inspired by Chinese Martial Arts and very steampunk elements. The problem with this Showcase sadly starts to show its head here. Games we want with no gameplay or release dates.
Second Attention Grabber: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (Release: 2024)
Be still my beating heart. For a few years, Konami has been focusing on the arcade and pachinko division of the IPs they own. Years ago the same company released a pachinko version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This arcade machine felt that the final blow to Hideo Kojima and Metal Gear fans. It checked all of the boxes fans wished for in this classic game. Updated Graphics: Check. Dolby 7.1 Audio: Check. Konami was only teasing us with the Pachinko machine.
If you were unaware of the enormous amount of leaks, you would have assumed the showcase was about to announce a new Far Cry. Slow you see Naked Snake emerge from the swamp water to stare intensely at his target and then we hear that beautiful James Bond-esque intro song “Snake Eater” by Cynthia Harrel.
Konami didn’t just leave us salivating for no reason. They also provided a side morsel of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 with the first three games of the Solid Saga coming in Autumn 2023.
Through all the excitement of the announcement. If left us wanting again, no release date or gameplay.
Third Attention Grabber: Final Fantasy XVI (Release: June 22nd, 2023)
Final Fantasy XVI feels like the game we know a lot and nothing about. From a producer who understands what a Final Fantasy game is, we dive into a game that is purely a vision of Naoki Yoshida. This game feels dark. It truly pulls at my heartstrings watching the “Salvation” trailer. It is so hard to explain that we will be doing a full written and video review which will release on June 27th, 2023.
Third Attention Grabber: Alan Wake II (Release: October 17th, 2023)
Remedy brings us back into the world of Alan Wake. You know what? I am perfectly fine with diving headfirst into the twisting and winding world of the Author Alan Wake’s mind and falling into the Dark Place with Mr. Wake and our newest protagonist. We want to explain more about this game series, but advise series playing Control and Alan Wake for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, XBox One, XBox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.) Following this same mind-bending story I wonder what this torture writer has whipped up for us after his decade-long solitary confinement.
Final Attention Grabber: Dragon’s Dogma II (Release: TBA)
I know what you are thinking. “Where is the coverage for Spider-Man 2? Why are you not talking about Spider-Man 2?” We will have a separate entire article for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but if you think that is punishment enough for you than let me discuss my favorite niche Soulslike.
Dragon’s Dogma dropped in 2012, one year after Dark Souls, no one expected much of the series as it was trapped in the middling review scores of 7 to 8 from all the major outlets. With the birth of gamers in the “Git Gud” category demanding harder games that didn’t hold your hand, Dragon’s Dogma was a comfortable fit. Tough gameplay. Hard as nails enemies. Deep rich combat. This was a breath of fresh air.
As one of those gamers myself with a Platinum on both Dragon’s Dogma and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen the announcement of Dragon’s Dogma II was met with a loud scream of excitement. Built this time on the RE engine which was used for all of the latest Resident Evils since Resident Evil 7. Dragon’s Dogma II is showing true polish Capcom has acquired creating blockbusters with the system. My excitement fell again with the realization that here is another title that doesn’t have a release date, but at least we got about five to ten seconds of gameplay.
