Fans Think James Marsden Just Accidentally Teased a Cyclops Cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine is shaping up to be a cameo-filled event for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans think James Marsden’s Cyclops will join the fray thanks to a recent Sonic the Hedgehog 3 interview.

Speculation began following a conversation Marsden had with The Playlist, where he confirmed filming for his other upcoming film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, recently wrapped. Interestingly, Marsden offered up the information that some work on that film took place near the Deadpool 3 stages.

“We just wrapped. We were near the Deadpool stages, actually,” Marsden said, referring to the comment as a “little bit of a Pandora’s box.” Marsden then quickly moved the conversation on to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where he talked about working Jim Carrey.

Marsden’s quick comment is far from confirmation that he will appear in Deadpool and Wolverine, but the awkward nature of his response was more than enough to send Marvel die-hards into a frenzy.

“Homie is 1000% in it,” X/Twitter user @syriangeekvibes said.

“Bring him back asap and make him the leader he was supposed to be for the whole damn series,” @Packers0823 added.

Marsden’s version of Cyclops (a.k.a. Scott Summers) was prominently featured in the X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand in the 2000s. Although he also appeared in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, another cameo could give fans one last chance to revisit mutant hero since Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019.

If Marsden does make an appearance, he won’t be the only familiar face to star alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson. The most obvious example is Hugh Jackman, who is returning as Wolverine after leaving the clawed character behind in Logan. Also confirmed to show up are Jennifer Garner’s Elektra as well as Aaron Standford’s Pyro.

Elsewhere in the interview, Marsden commented on how he thinks Deadpool and Cyclops would get along if they were to meet in live-action, though, again, he stops short of confirming his involvement.

“No. I think those are two opposite personalities. I think they would respect each other,” Marsden joked. “I keep hearing about that. I can’t walk down the street without someone asking me, so evidentially, there’s a lot of chatter about that. It would be fun.”

Deadpool and Wolverine brings the third Deadpool movie to theaters on July 26, 2024.
