Frozen 3 Delayed to 2027 as Disney Also Teases Frozen 4 – D23 2024

We will have to wait a little longer for the release of Frozen 3, but we nevertheless got our first look at the anticipated sequel during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 through some initial concept art.

The first Frozen 3 concept art, done up in a painterly style that brings to mind classic Disney films like Sleeping Beauty, shows Elsa on an ethereal ice horse walking on a river while her sister Anna and Olaf follow behind on a horse of their own. In the water, a frightening horned shadow clutching a spear can be seen, possibily hinting at the movie’s villain.

The concept art was part of a brief look at the upcoming animated film, which is now delayed to 2027 after previously being set for 2026. Few other details are known about the anticipated sequel that follows on from Frozen 2, which was recently displaced by Inside Out 2 as the highest-grossing animated film of all time.

“Coming out of Frozen 2, we still have some questions. A lot of questions actually. Now, you see why we need two films to tell this story,” producer Jennifer Lee teased.

Her comments seem to confirm Frozen 4 is happening after CEO Bob Iger teased that there “might” be another movie “in the works” alongside Frozen 3 back in 2023.

As for Frozen 3, we know that Josh Gad will reprise his role as Olaf, while Idina Menzel will return as Elsa. Kristen Bell has yet to confirm whether she will once again voice Anna.

Outside of Frozen 3, the Disney Entertainment Showcase included fresh looks at Moana 2, Zootopia 2, and Toy Story 5 as well as the first official announcement of The Incredible 3. For more, check out our running list of everything announced so far during D23’s Disney Entertainment showcase.
