HBO Is Still Developing Game of Thrones Spin-off 10,000 Ships

In the world of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones, the Iron Isles have a famous coda that they live by: “What is dead may never die.” The same is apparently true for Game of Thrones spin-off series. 10,000 Ships, one of several Game of Thrones spin-offs put into development by HBO and Max was reportedly abandoned. But according to Martin, 10,000 Ships is now once again in the works.

On his personal blog, Martin congratulated Eboni Booth for winning a Pulitzer Prize before announcing that she is writing a new pilot episode for 10,000 Ships. “We’re all very excited about this one,” wrote Martin. “Though we’re still trying to figure out how we’re going to pay for ten thousand ships, three hundred dragons, and those giant turtles.”

The potential 10,000 Ships series will focus on Queen Nymeria, a legendary figure from the lore of Game of Thrones who founded Dorne. Earlier this year, the previous writer on the project, Brian Helgeland, described the Biblical inspiration for the show.
