Here’s Why Fans Are Convinced Taylor Swift Will Appear as Dazzler in Deadpool 3

MCU casting rumors are far from uncommon, but one that’s taken hold in particular online is that Taylor Swift will appear in Deadpool 3 as pop star mutant Dazzler. To be clear, we have absolutely no confirmation one way or another whether this is true of not, but since she was spotted with Deadpool 3 stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman at a football game over the weekend, fans have been buzzing.

With the biggest of caveats possible that casting rumors swirl about all the time, let’s break down the clues of why Swifties are convinced she’ll be the new Dazzler:

September 2022: Rumors of Swift’s involvement with Deadpool 3 really caught fire last September when Reynolds shared the announcement teaser for the movie. As reported by Bustle at the time, fans noticed that the trailer was filmed in the same house where the singer filmed All Too Well: The Short Film, which she released in November 2021 as part of her re-recorded album Red (Taylor’s Version).

They noticed that the furniture in the house — the couch with the bookshelf and staircase in the background, the wallpaper, and the refrigerator — resemble the furniture that was featured in the music video. Add in the fact that Swift has long been friends with Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively, who even directed Swift’s “I Bet You Think About Me” music video, and fans were convinced that there were just a bit too many connections to be a coincedence.

November 2022: Over a month later, Reynolds denied that theory in an interview with ET, saying “If we shoot the next Deadpool film in our house, then that would be that location” – basically just commenting that a shooting location is sometimes just a shooting location.

However, he added that “of course” he’d love to have Swift if she was down for it.

“Are you kidding me?” he said at the time. “I would do anything for that woman. She’s a genius.”

September 2023: In the months following the Deadpool 3 announcement video and the Reynolds interview, various unconfirmed reports emerged that Swift would appear as Dazzler, along with bits of fan art.

When asked about the various casting rumors, such as Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Liev Schrieber as Sabretooth, producer Shawn Levy hinted that some of them are true – but only some.

“I’d rather not weigh in on that, but I’ll say this,” Levy said to EW. “The rumors of actors, singers, sports stars who are all apparently in Deadpool 3 are fabulous. If all I read was the internet, I would have the greatest cast ever assembled in the history of cinema, so I’ll simply say that some of those rumors are true, and some of them aren’t.”

October 2023: Rumors picked up again when Swift was seen hanging out with Reynolds, Lively, and Jackman at a Kansas City Chiefs game against the New York Jets.

Naturally, this added a lot of fuel to the fire.

She’s with the whole Deadpool 3 team.

But again, we cannot stress this enough: this is absolutely no confirmation that Swift will be in Deadpool 3. It could just be a pop star hanging out with some movie stars at a football game. But if you’ve been wondering why the internet has been going nuts over this, well, here ya go.

Dazzler was most recently portrayed by Halston Sage in Dark Phoenix, and was previously voiced by Alexandra Stoddart in X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men.

Deadpool 3 is currently on pause amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. For more, check out everything we know about where various films are following the writers’ strike.
