Hitman: World of Assassination to Get First New Elusive Target in Two Years

IO Interactive has announced a brand new Elusive Target for Hitman: World of Assassination, due out later in 2023.
The Drop, Hitman: World of Assassination’s first new Elusive Target mission for two years, features the likeness and voiceover of real-life DJ and actor Dimitri Vegas, and launches free on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Vegas plays the titular The Drop, “a DJ-turned-drug impresario bent on controlling the scene one way or another”. IO didn’t say where the mission is set, but a Berlin nightclub sounds plausible.
In Hitman: World of Assassination, Elusive Targets are unique, high-stakes contracts only available for a limited time. These missions are free for all players, allowing one chance to assassinate the target and if not successfully completed, the contract cannot be retried. Unique rewards attached to the The Drop Elusive Target mission will be revealed at a later date, IO said.
In January, IO rebranded Hitman 3 as Hitman: World of Assassination, with the entire trilogy’s content streamlined and packaged into one game. World of Assassination became the only modern Hitman game available to buy, with Hitman 1 and 2 removed from storefronts.
In March, IO said it was putting its Hitman franchise on hiatus to focus on its long-anticipated James Bond game instead. IO chief creative officer Christian Elverdam told Eurogamer it might be a while before fans get another major entry, though Hitman: World of Assassination would continue to be updated.
“Right now a major, major new Hitman game… that’s a little bit on hiatus, as we’re building another agent fantasy that’s also taking up a lot of our time,” Elverdam said. “But obviously we’ll come back to beloved Agent 47. He’s still very much in the heart of this company.”
