Horror Comedy Deathgasm II: Goremageddon to Receive Graphic Novel Prequel

Heavy metal-themed horror comedy Deathgasm is not only getting a sequel, it’s also spinning out into the world of comics. The franchise is poised to receive its first graphic novel, dubbed Deathgasm 1.5: Director’s Cut, which serves as a direct prequel to the upcoming film Deathgasm II: Goremageddon.

IGN can exclusively debut Skinner’s art for the Deathgasm 1.5 hardcover edition. Check it out below:

Deathgasm director Jason Howden serves as creator/director of the graphic novel. The creative team also includes writer Peter Bune (Squatch Watch), artist Industrias Lamonicana (Fierro), colorist Zac Atkinson (Farscape, Star Trek), and letterer Jeremiah Lambert (Masters of the Universe, Transformers). The book also includes contributions from writers Michael Schwartz (Armored, Zombie Town) and Joshua Viola (True Believers, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver) and softcover artwork by Matthew Therrien. The comic is the first release from Metal X Entertainment, a new multimedia company spearheaded by Viola and writer/editor James Aquilone.

“Between the events of Deathgasm 1 and Deathgasm 2 was a story that I needed to tell,” said Howden in a statement. “The story was so visually epic, so gory, and so offensive that it could never be filmed without watering it down. Instead, we made it into a graphic novel: Deathgasm 1.5. We’re stoked for fans to witness Brodie and Medina slashing demons and thrashing metal riffs, meeting old mates and an ageless evil that lurk in the shadows of a heavy metal-hating church!”

“Working on the Deathgasm graphic novel has been a dream come true,” said Peter Bune. “As a huge fan of Jason’s original film, it was exhilarating to dive into the characters he created. Exploring the band’s journey, battling new demons on tour, and confronting old enemies was incredibly fun. I can’t wait for everyone to see Medina stepping up as the heroic frontwoman of Deathgasm!”

Deathgasm 1.5 will be crowdfunded on Kickstarter. Backers have the choice between hardcover and softcover editions of the book, as well as optional extras like masks, original art, shirts, and signed art prints.
