How To Find Dr. Garrow And The Signal Redirector In Atomfall

Estimated reading time: 6 minutes

Casterfell Woods is home to some mysterious occurrences in the world of Atomfall. From the radical Druids to the strange voice in the soil, the woods shouldn’t be taken lightly. While exploring Casterfell Woods, you might come across a log from an NPC named Dr. Garrow. Dr. Garrow’s flight crashed in the woods, and the log states that she headed to Wyndham Village to search for refuge.

While this sounds like a simple fetch quest, Dr. Garrow is actually one of the more important investigations in the entirety of Atomfall. Before you can get too deep into the quest, though, you need to find Dr. Garrow in the village and then, as you progress, you’ll eventually have to find something called a Signal Redirector.

Getting to Wyndham Village

First and foremost, you need to search for Dr. Garrow at Wyndham Village, which has a couple of different entrances located throughout Casterfell Woods. The easiest way to get to the village is by accessing the Sewer Tunnels and going to the separate village entrance there. However, you can also go through the Interchange if you have made it that far in Atomfall yet.

If you haven’t discovered the Sewer Tunnels or the Interchange up to this point, though, simply backtrack through Slatten Dale, and you can reach Wyndham Village by going to the very north part of the region. You can go through the gate to reach the village without any resistance.

Wyndham Village also has an entrance on the eastern side of Skethermoor if you’ve visited that region.

Finding Dr. Garrow in the village

Once you have made your way to Wyndham Village, you have to find Dr. Garrow. If you’re tracking the investigation in Atomfall, then your quest marker tells you to visit and go inside St. Katherine’s Church, which is north of where you enter the village from Slatten Dale and the sewers.

If you head inside the church, you can also start the Murder in the Church investigation. However, the quest marker for Dr. Garrow appears to be in a location you can’t reach. Even if you walk right up to where you think the quest marker is pointing on your map, you’ll find nothing there.

Atomfall is being tricky here; you actually have to go inside the basement of the church, which is accessed on the left side of the pews if you’re facing the altar. Go downstairs, and here you’ll find some stairs leading a little further down to tombs and coffins. On the right side of these stairs, tucked away in a corner, is a note sitting on top of a barrel.

This note is called “The Scientist Garrow was captured.” Pick up the note and read it to discover that Dr. Garrow was taken to the Skethermoor prison. Your new task now is to break the scientist out of the prison, but that’s a monumental task in Atomfall.

Trying to enter the Skethermoor Prison

To get to Skethermoor, go further north past the church and keep heading down the road until you reach a new gate. This is on the opposite side of the village from the Slatten Dale entrance. Head through the gate to enter Skethermoor, but be warned, as any soldier in this region will shoot you sight unseen, unless you’ve already done some favors for Sims, the military leader residing in Wyndam Village. If you have’ he’ll have the armed forces stand down, letting you explore most of Skethermoor freely.

Assuming you haven’t, though, the prison is located on the south side of Skethermoor. However, if you follow the quest marker to the prison, you’ll soon discover that you can’t even get close to your objective. The entire prison is surrounded by alarm bells that start to beep faster and faster the closer you get to them. The prison also has dozens of guards stationed at various spots and massive robots patrolling the entire perimeter.

While it might seem like the prison is impossible to penetrate, there is something you can do. If you manage to get close to one of the alarm bell generators, you’ll see that you need a tool called the “Signal Redirector” to turn off the alarms. This means you can enter the prison grounds undetected if you take out some guards and can work your way to Dr. Garrow.

How to get the Signal Redirector

There are a couple of ways to get a Signal Redirector in Atomfall. You might even already have the device in your inventory if you searched the right area or you could have an active investigation that relates to the device.

In any case, the best way to get the Signal Redirector is to speak to a woman named Nora, who is located to the far northeast of the Skethermoor Prison. She’s hiding at a place called Nora’s Barn. It’s east of the Wyndham Village entrance and the Brinsop Manor location, for reference, if you have discovered that location.

At Nora’s Barn, make your way to the central garage area by working around barriers and traps. Inside, you’ll find Nora and you can explain your situation. She will eventually bring up that you should try and rescue Dr Garrow. Of course, to do so, you need the Signal Redirector. Well, Nora also has a lead on that device. She says there was a mysterious BARD Crate that was lost in Skethermoor.

After the dialogue ends, you have a new quest marker on your map that leads to the rumored BARD crate’s location. The quest marker ends at an “Unexplored Bunker” in the center part of the region. It’s right near the prison grounds, so you have to be careful about alerting enemies.

Inside the bunker, which is called the Protocol Field Station, follow your quest marker, and you’ll stumble across the Windfall’s Crate in a room. There are several Protocol enemies in the station, so watch out for them or start shooting. You can use the Windfall Keycard you got from Nora and open the Windfall’s Crate to loot a Signal Redirector.

Using the Signal Redirector

The Signal Redirector is an interesting device. It works by hacking junctions and reverting their power. This is an important device to many quests in Atomfall, so you need to know how to use it.

All you have to do is find a junction box that has power going to it. Get relatively close to this junction box, aim the Signal Redirector at it, and when the device lights up, press the “hack” button. This turns off the junction box or redirects its power to another junction.

You can test the device out inside the Protocol Field Station or go straight to the Skethermoor Prison. At the prison, approach a yellow junction box that is attached to one of the alarm bells. Get right near the yellow box and use the Signal Redirector on it to turn off the alarm, allowing you to safely venture further into the prison.
