Josh Hutcherson ‘Dying to Get Back on Set’ for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

It sounds like Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is happening after the huge success of the first movie.

Indie horror video game phenomenon Five Nights at Freddy’s finally got its long-anticipated film adaptation in 2023 and it became Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie to date. Universal hasn’t announced a sequel for FNAF yet, but given the strong box office returns and expansive lore that could be adapted, it always looked like a no-brainer.

Now, comments from Josh Hutcherson, who played security guard Mike Schmidt in the first film, strongly suggest a sequel is in the works. Speaking to Variety, Hutcherson said: “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible. Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was so cool and phenomenal.

“We hoped it would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”

According to Variety, Hutcherson also said his Hunger Games co-star Jennifer Lawrence dropped him a line to celebrate Five Nights at Freddy’s box office success on the same weekend that her film No Hard Feelings topped the Netflix chart.

“Jen texted me when Freddy’s came out,” Hutcherson said. “She was like, ‘My movie’s number one on Netflix, and your’s is number one at the box office! Let’s go!’ I was like, ‘I love you!’”

Last month, IGN spoke with horror icon Matthew Lillard, who played FNAF’s central antagonist William Afton, to delve into crafting his version of Afton, how he prepared for the role, and even his hopes for a now seemingly nailed-on sequel.
