Jujutsu Kaisen director’s new post-apocalyptic heist anime is coming this summer
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Sunghoo Park, the director of Jujutsu Kaisen’s first season and 2024’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0, has been a busy man lately. That shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon with Bullet/Bullet, his second original anime after last year’s Ninja Kamui, which is set to premiere this summer. And from the looks of the trailer, he’s really swinging for the fences on this one.
Set in a future where human civilization has collapsed and the world has been turned into a wasteland, Bullet/Bullet centers on Gear, a young boy working in a junk shop. Tired of his humdrum life, he teams up with an anthropomorphic polar bear with a gambling problem and a robot with four competing personalities to become Robin Hood-esque thieves for hire. After accepting a request from a mysterious girl named Noa, the trio find themselves chased to the ends of the earth by an armed group vying for control of a world-altering secret.
The first eight episodes of the anime will premiere in Japan exclusively on Disney Plus’ Star hub on July 16, followed by four additional episodes on Aug. 13. While there hasn’t been any announcement yet as to where the series will stream in the United States, it’s all but certain that Bullet/Bullet will simulcast on Hulu, given Disney’s ownership of the platform and its strategy concerning previous anime acquisitions like Sand Land and Heavenly Delusion.
Aki Kindaichi (Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray) is the principal script supervisor and scriptwriter for the series, while Takahiro Yoshimatsu (2011’s Hunter x Hunter) is in charge of character designs as well as acting as Bullet/Bullet’s chief animation director. Hidetaka Tenjin, who’s previously worked on such iconic franchises as Macross and Space Battleship Yamato, is the concept designer and mechanical designer for the anime, while Shin Misawa (Initial D) will serve as the series’ car action director.
