Martin Scorsese’s TikTok Stardom Was Accidental: ‘I Was Tricked Into That’

Martin Scorsese, famed film maker behind Taxi Driver, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Wolf of Wall Street, and so many more, is now, accidentally, a TikTok star. “I was tricked into that,” he said.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Scorsese said the wave of his now viral TikTok videos were something he thought his daughter was just making for fun, saying he didn’t know they would be shared online or had the capacity to go viral.

“I was tricked into that,” Scorsese said. “That was a trick. I didn’t know those things go viral. They say viral. I didn’t know.”

Scorsese’s TikToks, made by his daughter, include the 80-year-old guessing what slang words mean, ranking films via the movie bracket feature, and performing bits like pretending to cast a film only to reveal his dog on the other side of the camera.

“That I didn’t know was going to go up,” Scorsese said of the dog skit. “I was just doing it in the other room with her. I don’t know what they’re going to do. They always have those iPhone cameras in their hands. You’re not aware. I honestly did not know she was going to post it. They use the words ‘post it’, right?”

Scorsese explained it’s just something his daughter does around the house, even approaching him while he’s in pajamas and asking him to this or that.

The director’s latest, which premiered on October 20, 2023, earned a 9/10 from IGN. “Martin Scorsese’s modern Western, Killers of the Flower Moon, revisits the Osage murders of the 1920s with a masterful hand, and a shockingly frank approach to violence and white supremacy,” we said.
