Marvel Star Hayley Atwell Addresses Captain America Kids Theory

It’s no secret that Steve Rogers got a second chance with Peggy after Avengers: Endgame. Agreeing to put the Infinity Stones back in their rightful places, Captain America then uses the time machine for one last trip to be reunited with Peggy Carter back in the ‘40s and live out his life the way he always wanted.

But what about the kids?

Captain America: Civil War earlier revealed that Peggy Carter had children of her own, but with Steve’s time-traveling antics, does that mean he’s the father? It’s a neat theory, and Peggy Carter star Hayley Atwell thinks the fans deserve to know.

“I feel like it’s sort of, I know my cop-out answer is, ‘It’s whatever you want it to be,’” Atwell initially said in an interview with ComicBook. However, she quickly changed her mind. “I think hopefully it’s… Well, here’s my answer; I hope one day we actually find out.”

“I would love for the audiences to not be left guessing or hanging in suspense,” she added. “But actually all those questions to be resolved in a really satisfying way because that, I think the audiences deserve it. And also, I think it would be really fun to work out the best version of what that would be and what is the most exciting one.”

Although Captain America’s kids haven’t appeared in the MCU, they have in the comic books. Appearing in different universes, his son James Rogers and daughter Sarah Rogers both inherited their father’s abilities, and with the multiverse blown wide open, there’s no reason we couldn’t meet them at some point down the line.

Whether or not Peggy’s children in Earth-616 were fathered by Steve remains a mystery. However, Avengers: Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have previously hinted that it could be the case.

“I love the idea of there being two Steve Rogers in the timeline,” Markus told the LA Times. “One who lived a long life with Peggy and is in the background of that funeral scene watching his young self carry his wife’s coffin up. Not just for the time travel mumbo jumbo of it, but for the just weird, personal pain and satisfaction that would be happening between two Steve Rogers there. I kind of love it.”

Either way, Atwell does have some fun ideas about what the kids would be like. “They’re like venture capitalists or total techie nerds that are like, ‘You guys are annoying,’” she joked. “‘I’m going to rebel and do something completely different.’”
