Mission: Impossible 8 Filming Delayed Again – Report

Last summer, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One began with a sequence inside the Sevastopol, a Russian submarine that was tricked by the A.I. known as The Entity into sinking to the bottom of the ocean with all hands trapped on board. By the end of the film, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt realized that the key to stopping The Entity is still on the submarine. But getting back to film scenes on the sub may be holding up the next film.

The Mirror is reporting that Mission: Impossible 8 is facing another delay in shooting over difficulties with the £23million submarine used for the set and the gimbal that is used to lower it. The gimbal reportedly “jammed under its weight,” causing weeks of delays.

Presumably the submarine will be used for the sequences where Ethan goes to retrieve the key from the Sevastopol. The report notes that the production team ran into problems after adding stairwells and other details to the empty submarine shell. The additional weight caused the issue with the gimble, and the repairs are said to be ongoing.
