Paddington in Peru Gets Theatrical Release Date

Paddington in Peru will hit UK cinemas on November 8, 2024, just over two months before it opens stateside on January 17, 2025, during Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.

Directed by Dougal Wilson, the highly anticipated third film will see Paddington pack his suitcase as he embarks on an all-new adventure with the Brown family, travelling through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears.

Paddington in Peru began principal photography in July, more than two years after news of a third film in the beloved franchise surfaced, with Mark Burton, Jon Foster, and James Lamont penning the screenplay from a story by Paul King, Simon Farnaby, and Burton, based on Michael Bond’s classic children’s stories.

Ben Whishaw is returning to voice the titular bear for his third outing, while Imelda Staunton provides the voice for Aunt Lucy. The film also sees Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Madeleine Harris, and Samuel Joslin reprise their roles as the Brown family on the live-action cast alongside Emily Mortimer, who replaces Sally Hawkins.

Jim Broadbent is also back as Samuel Gruber, joining newcomer Antonio Banderas as a riverboat captain named Hunter Cabot, who helps the Brown family on their Peruvian adventure, along with his daughter Gina, played by Carla Tous, and Olivia Colman as The Reverend Mother, who runs the Home for Retired Bears.

Paddington is a beary popular character who has had two very successful big-screen outings. Hideo Kojima listed Paddington 2 as one of his favourite films in recent history, while IGN gave the sequel an 8.5 out of 10, saying it “goes all in on the charm and wit established in the first film and comes up with yet another winner”.
