Pikachu wants to keep you safe in this Pokémon-themed flight-safety video

Don’t tell airlines this, but I have reached a point where I no longer pay close attention to flight safety demonstrations and videos. They just tend to be repetitive and a bit dry, but that could change if I’m lucky enough to fly through Japan. All Nippon Airways and The Pokémon Company launched a themed inflight safety video featuring Pokémon like Pikachu, Jigglypuff, and others on Thursday. Equal parts cute and informative — it’s the perfect way to learn how to stay safe.
The video is in Japanese and English, and has a sign language interpreter. It goes over your standard safety flight information like when to use your seatbelt, how to inflate a life vest, and what to do in the case of an emergency landing. It’s pretty standard stuff, except that 3D animated Pokémon demonstrate all the guidelines. A release from The Pokémon Company said the goal of the video is to have an in-flight safety presentation that people of all ages “will want to watch.”
Personally, my favorite part is when the video is when a Farfetch’d shows us how to load up the overhead baggage storage by putting a giant leek alongside regular luggage, but there are of plenty cute moments. Machoke — whose snatched waist somehow fits perfectly in an airline seat — buckles up when seated in case of turbulence. Greedent drops a bundle of berries and obstructs an aisle with the mess. Also, the video confirms that Lucario is the kind of Pokémon that travels with its seat fully reclined back.
You can view the full video on ANA’s Global YouTube channel. Otherwise, you’ll have to catch a special flight to see it while traveling. It will be played aboard the “Pikachu Jet NH” and “Eevee Jet NH,” the release said. So it will just add another layer to an already glorious flying experience.
