Rebel Moon Trailer Teases an Epic Space War and a Group of Warriors Coming Together Against Evil

Netflix ended Geeked Week 2023 with a brand new trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, and it’s an explosive and action-packed look at the adventure that will see a group of… well… rebels banding together to stop a deadly threat from the Motherworld.

Rebel Moon is a 2-part movie event that is “decades in the making,” and this trailer was focused on that first adventure – A Child of Fire. In the footage, we meet Sofia Boutella’s Kora – a stranger with a mysterious past living amongst peaceful farmers on the moon of Veldt.

There are no heroes. Only rebels.

When ships enter the atmosphere, Kora knows all too well that these visitors mean nothing but trouble. These are invaders from the Motherworld, and they’ve found out that these farmers have unknowingly sold their crops to a group of insurgents, and they will have to pay the price despite them not meaning to do anything wrong.

Kora then goes on a search for fighters willing to defend the people of Veldt, and we get a glimpse of those she seeks to recruit. These warriors include “Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter.”

We also get a short glimpse at Anthony Hopkins’ Jimmy, an “ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings” who “awakens with a new purpose.”

Alongside bits of story, the trailer is filled with a ton of action, laser swords, robots, explosions, and so much more.

Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire will be released on Netflix on December 22, 2023, and Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver will follow on April 19, 2024. Snyder revealed the first trailer for the much-anticipated film at gamescom Opening Night Live earlier this year, and it gave us our best look yet at the new universe that is being built over at Netflix.

In addition to these two films, there have already been talks of other feature follow-ups, a TV series, and a video game adaptation. Snyder also confirmed, much like with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, that we will be getting director’s cuts of both parts of Rebel Moon.

Rebel Moon was famously pitched as a Star Wars movie, and Snyder has since turned it into his own original idea. As for what this original idea is, Netflix will help explain;

“The star-trotting epic Rebel Moon is about Kora (Sofia Boutella), a lone-wolf soldier who’s found community and connection on the quiet farming moon of Veldt,” Netflix wrote. “She’s a long way away from her former life fighting for the Imperium, the brutal interstellar royal empire bent on controlling the galaxy. But Kora’s violent past is dredged up when sadistic admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) comes to Veldt via a Dreadnought-class battle cruiser and stirs up deadly trouble on the orders of the Imperium’s tyrannical regent, Balisarius (Fra Fee). “
