Ryan Reynolds Confirms What Will Inevitably Be One of Deadpool & Wolverine’s Many Cameos

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney will appear in Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine as one of what will surely be many, many cameos.

Reynolds and McElhenney confirmed the news in the latest episode of their sports documentary show, Welcome to Wrexham. Toward the middle of the episode, titled Temporary, the show takes a brief intermission to show viewers a very censored look at the set of Deadpool & Wolverine.

“Because of my busy schedule, I had to invite my co-chair, Rob McElhenney, to the set of Deadpool in London to discuss all things that are Wrexham,” Reynolds says. “And, yes, I did have to promise him a role in the upcoming Deadpool film.”

Welcome to Wrexhman then shows footage of the Deadpool & Wolverine set, blurring nearly everything except for McElhenney, Reynolds, and director Shawn Levy’s faces. Fans can’t even catch a glimpse at what some of the stars are talking about, as their words are bleeped out while their mouths are covered with a hovering Deadpool logo. That means we’ll have to wait to find out exactly who McElhenney will play.

“Now, I can’t necessarily tell you which character Rob plays in Deadpool for fear of being shot down by the Marvel drone that follows me and my kids around,” Reynolds jokes.

Deadpool and Wolverine has long been teased to be one of the biggest cameo-filled entries in all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, while it’s exciting to see McElhenney wandering around a Marvel set while Reynolds blurs out everything outside the walls of a trailer, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star will likely be far from the only guest we see. Other faces rumored to show up include Taylor Swift as Dazzler and Jennifer Garner as Elektra. One fan even noticed that Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer can be found in a Deadpool and Wolverine trailer.

While McElhenney’s role is being kept secret for now, a few fans have spun up their own theories as to who he might play. Some think it would be funny to see the rest of the It’s Always Sunny cast show up as alternate versions of the Fantastic Four or Wolverine. Others are expecting to see the actor appear as an agent with the Time Variance Authority thanks to the small patch of orange seen on some of his clothes.
