Ryan Reynolds Reveals Alpha Cop, an ‘Intentionally Bad’ Fake Movie That Would Have Switched to Deadpool & Wolverine 5 Minutes In

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Ryan Reynolds has revealed one discarded plan for Deadpool & Wolverine that would surely have shocked cinemagoers had it ever become reality.

Speaking on the First We Feast YouTube channel, Deadpool actor Reynolds said the original idea for Deadpool & Wolverine was to shoot a fake movie called Alpha Cop that was “intentionally bad.” It would have been about two cops who share a brain, and a mock poster would have carried the slogan: “Alpha Cop. Two cops. One brain. All balls.”

Alpha Cop would then have hit theaters and, five minutes in, switch over to Deadpool & Wolverine.

“The original idea with this movie was to shoot a fake movie called Alpha Cop that was intentionally bad,” Reynolds said. “I even had one of the posters made. It was about two guys who were sharing one brain, and together they make the ultimate cop. And the poster says: ‘Alpha Cop. Two cops. One brain. All balls.’

“It was meant to be kind of like horrible, so 10 people in America would go to see this movie on opening weekend. Five minutes into the movie the Marvel logo would flip up and it would actually be Deadpool & Wolverine.”

Obviously, the Alpha Cop idea didn’t end up happening, but it’s fun to imagine people sitting down to watch what they thought was going to be a terrible buddy cop movie only to find out they were watching Deadpool & Wolverine instead. Perhaps Alpha Cop will make a cameo appearance should Deadpool 4 eventually see the light of day.

Reynolds and co-star Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine, have spent the last month or so touring the globe promoting Deadpool & Wolverine, which is the only MCU movie of 2024. IGN has plenty on the film, including our Deadpool & Wolverine review, interviews with director Shawn Levy and Marvel chief Kevin Feige, with more to come.
