Unlike Jigsaw’s many, many victims, the Saw franchise isn’t dying anytime soon.
Lionsgate officially confirmed Saw XI with an Instagram post on Monday, and revealed a release date that actually isn’t too far away: Sept. 27, 2024.
That means we’ll have two Septembers in a row with new Saw movies, as Saw X came out late this past September. Aside from 2021 spinoff Spiral, every other Saw movie has come out in October. Clearly, the Halloween-adjacent dates are working for them.
The news of another Saw sequel itself isn’t too surprising, considering how financially reliable this series still is. Per Box Office Mojo, Saw X managed to pull in $107 million worldwide on a lean reported $13 million budget.
And, amazingly, Saw X proved that ol’ Jigsaw still has some surprises in store, even as we’re nearly 20 years from the 2005 original’s humble beginnings. In her 7/10 review for IGN, Amelia Emberwing wrote that it “showcases an emotional depth that manages to take one of these stories higher than ever before.”

Still, there were some doubts about whether or not we’d still get another movie, especially when considering comments from Saw X director Kevin Greutert, who told THR that he considered it a goodbye to Tobin Bell’s famous antagonist.
“There are so many directions we could go, but for me, there’s no obvious one coming out of this film,” he said. “I really wanted it to feel like a kind of final send-off for the Jigsaw character, but never say never.”
Never say never indeed.
In addition to Saw itself being a long-running franchise with a dedicated fanbase, horror has continued to prove itself a reliable genre at a frequently uncertain box office. Five Nights at Freddy’s grossed $288 million worldwide earlier this year, while sequels for horror movies like Talk to Me, It Follows, and The Black Phone have all been confirmed over the past few months.
