Scream 7 Star Melissa Barrera Dropped After Social Media Posts on Israel-Hamas War

One of Scream VII’s biggest stars has reportedly been dropped after a series of comments on social media about the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

Melissa Barrera, who starred as Sam Carpenter in Scream VI, was previously set to return for the sequel alongside Jenna Ortega. However, Variety Magazine reports that Spyglass Media Group quietly dropped Barrera due to posts on Instagram in which she described the media’s coverage as one-sided in favor of Israel, among other statements and videos about the conflict.

In a follow-up post on Instagram, Barrera posted, “At the end of the day, I’d rather be excluded for who I include, than be included for who I exclude.”

IGN has reached out to Spyglass as well as Barrera’s representatives for comment.

Little else is known about Scream VII at the moment save that it will be directed by Christopher Landon, who will be helming the film in place of Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. It follows the franchise’s reboot and its follow-up, Scream VI, the latter of which was released earlier this year.

Outside of Scream 7, Barrera is set to appear in an untitled Universal Pictures movie currently in production for 2024.
