Nearly three years ago, Tom Holland headlined Spider-Man: No Way Home opposite his two immediate predecessors, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, in what turned out to be the highest-grossing film that Sony has ever released. Holland hasn’t exactly rushed back to the MCU since then, and he hasn’t even made any cameos. “I read [the Spider-Man 4 script] three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me,” said Holland during his recent appearance on Rich Roll’s YouTube show. “Zendaya and I sat down, read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going.”

Holland didn’t mention that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to helm Spider-Man 4, but he did say that there are “fantastic people we have working on it now.” The actor also noted that “we have a creative, and a pitch, and a draft which is excellent. It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job.”
