Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Release Date Delayed Indefinitely as Strikes Continues

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Sony Picture’s release schedule is seeing some major changes due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, with Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 and Kraven the Hunter both being delayed, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse being removed from the schedule entirely.

Beyond the Spider-Verse, which was originally set to release March 29, 2024, no longer has a release date. According to Variety, the cast wasn’t available to complete dialogue recording in time for the spring release. Sony Pictures is reportedly considering several release dates depending on how long the strikes lasts.

Elsewhere, Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 is being pushed from Christmas 2023 to Spider-Verse’s former slot, and Kraven is shifting from October 2023 to August 30, 2024. A Karate Kid reboot has also been delayed, with Blumhouse’s They Listen being delayed indefinitely. Finally, sequels to Bad Boys and Venom now have summer 2024 release dates.

The full list is below.

Beyond the Spider-Verse is by far the most notable delay out the movies listed. Across the Spider-Verse opened earlier this year to strong reviews and big box office numbers. However, it was only half of the total story and ended on a major cliffhanger. Suffice it to say, it will be a very long wait for eager Spider-Verse fans who want to see how the story wraps up.

The dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes have heavily impacted Hollywood, delaying movie releases and preventing stars from promoting their films. According to Variety, the desire to have Kraven star Aaron Taylor-Johnson promote their new movie is a big reason for the film’s delay.

The strikes are unlikely to be resolved any time soon, though. Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin is among those who believe that it will be a long and bitter work stoppage. In the meantime, many more movies and shows are apt to be delayed as both sides dig in.
