Square Enix Will Release Another Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles One Day, Producer Says

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles fans hoping for a sequel might be in luck as series producer Akitoshi Kawazu has promised “a brand-new chapter” will arrive one day.
As reported by Eurogamer, a Square Enix blog post from Kawazu celebrated the GameCube game’s 20th anniversary by subtly announcing a new entry, though it probably isn’t coming anytime soon.
“I feel regret for not being able to satisfy the fans who have been holding out hope for an all-new [Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles] game,” he wrote. “While there’s so much I’d like to do, I just can’t find the time to do it all.
“I know that the characters deserve to shine again, yet I’ve been unable to provide them with another adventure. They’re eager to set out to discover the true meaning of the crystals’ blessing, and much like those of us who were cooped up at home for the past few years, they could only gaze up at the skies above their respective towns, day after day. But new trials do await them, ones from which they will grow stronger. Please trust that one day, a brand-new chapter will be added to their adventure.”
This is far from an official announcement though, and there likely isn’t even a game in development currently, but Kawazu certainly suggests that Square Enix will create a follow-up eventually.
The spin-off series — which began with the infamously complicated multiplayer game that required four Game Boy Advance consoles to play — has been dormant since 2009’s The Crystal Bearers on Wii.
Square Enic did release a Remastered Edition of the original in 2020 but it wasn’t particularly well received. In IGN’s 3/10 review, we said: “Dated design, clunky multiplayer systems, and unacceptable load times make playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition a terrific chore.”
