Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Enchanted the Domestic Weekend Box Office With an Estimated $96 Million

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour had a record-breaking opening weekend at the domestic weekend box office as it had the best opening ever for a concert film in North America with ticket sales reaching an estimated $96 million.

As reported by Comscore, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was distributed domestically by Variance and AMC and took the record from 2010’s Justin Beiber: Never Say Never’s $73.01 million debut.

If the estimations prove to be lower than the actual ticket sales, it may have a chance at passing Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’s entire worldwide run of $99.03. Either way, that record for the highest-grossing concert film should be broken in just a few days.

Depending on how the actual ticket sales turn out, it may set a new benchmark for an October film’s debut if it can earn more than the $96.20 million 2019’s Joker brought in during its first weekend.

As reported by Variety, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will have a unique run at the box office as it will only be playing on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays as the team behind the film wants the theaters to be as packed as possible and avoid emptier showings. Unlike other films, singing, dancing, and video taking is encouraged during the movie, as it should feel just like the concert.

Taylor Swift self-produced this movie and stands to take home about 57% of ticket sales, while theaters will keep the remaining revenue and AMC will take a small distribution fee.

As for the actual The Eras Tour, it began in March 2023 and The Washington Post estimates Taylor Swift could make upwards of $4.1 billion on an estimated $5.7 billion total.

In a far distant second place was The Exorcist: Believer with $11 million in its second weekend, which brought the latest Exorcist film’s North American total to $44.92 million.

Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie took third place with $7 million, Saw X placed fourth with $5.7 million, and The Creator rounded out the top five with $4.3 million.
