The Creator Gets Disney Plus Release Date in the UK

Gareth Edwards’ sci-fi epic The Creator will debut on Disney+ in the UK on January 17, allowing subscribers to embark on an intergalactic thrill ride later this week.

The original motion picture event from the director of Rogue One is arriving on Disney+ in the UK less than a month after the film debuted on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S. on December 20, 2023, following a theatrical release in September.

The Creator stars John David Washington as Joshua, a grieving ex-special forces agent tasked with hunting down and killing an AI architect known as “The Creator,” who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end war and also wipe out humanity, only to discover that the world-ending threat is a young child.

Edwards previously told IGN he wanted someone relatable in the lead role of Joshua, and Washington was the perfect candidate. Joining him on the cast are Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Allison Janney, and newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles, who plays Alphie, the AI child at the heart of the conflict.

The screenplay for the sci-fi thriller derives from Edwards and his Rogue One collaborator Chris Weitz, based on an original story that Edwards, who also served as a producer on the film, described as a visually-driven and emotional adventure that turned into “a melting pot” of things he loved growing up.

The movie received a generally positive reaction from critics, with IGN’s review of The Creator calling it a “derivative but striking science fiction” that presents a bold vision of an AI-dominated world, with “jaw-dropping” imagery, “relatively frugal special effects,” and “detailed depth” to create its futuristic design.
