The Fantastic Four Reboot Is Set In An Alternate Marvel Universe

Earlier this year, Marvel confirmed the cast of The Fantastic Four with a charming piece of artwork that featured Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in character in a retro ’60s style. That was the first clue that the reboot film wasn’t going to take place in the present. Now, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has gone a step further and confirmed that The Fantastic Four won’t even take place in the regular MCU that we’ve been following since 2008.

Feige was a guest on the first episode of the official Marvel podcast, and he revealed that the film is set in the ’60s in an alternate Marvel universe that we haven’t seen before. He also pointed out that the second promotional image, featuring the Human Torch, included a version of New York City that never existed in our reality.

“There was a cityscape in the corner of that image and there was a lot of smart people who noticed that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know and the New York that existed in the ’60s in our world,” said Feige. “And those are smart observations, I’ll say.”
