The Strangers: Chapter 1 Gets Suspenseful First Trailer
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Ahead of its May release, Lionsgate has finally released the first trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 1, teasing a tense home invasion slasher film with a high probability of bloodshed.
The first trailer, which you can check out above, gives us the first look at the trio of masked assailants who will be terrorizing a young couple.
We previously learned that The Strangers: Chapter 1’s premise will focus on a couple, played by Riverdale actress Madelaine Petsch and actor Froy Gutierrez, who are staying the night in an Airbnb in an isolated location in Oregon. What was planned to be a peaceful night becomes a fight for survival as the two evade three masked killers.
Last August, it was announced that Lionsgate was distributing a new film in The Strangers franchise with A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and Die Hard 2’s Renny Harlin attached to direct. As the subtitle implies, the film is the first chapter in a planned trilogy. During a Q&A at a NYCC panel last year, Harlin told the audience that all three movies have been shot and that he’s interested in releasing the entire trilogy this year if Lionsgate agrees.
Though it was initially teased as a remake or a reboot, Harlin confirmed in an interview with ComicBook.com that the trilogy is set in the same continuity as the 2008 film and the 2018 sequel The Strangers: Prey at Night.
In our review of The Strangers: Prey at Night, we said: “The Strangers: Prey at Night is a taut, scary, and thankfully less dour sequel than the 2008 original.”
The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be released on May 17, 2024. For more, check out the first clip, which premiered at New York City Comic Con 2023, and our interview with Harlin and producer Courtney Solomon.
