The Toxic Avenger: Exclusive Teaser Trailer Debut for Remake of Troma Classic

Ahead of its West Coast premiere at Beyond Fest on September 30, IGN can exclusively debut the teaser trailer for Legendary Entertainment’s The Toxic Avenger. “Eyewitness Toxie,” as the red band teaser is designated, can be watched via the player above or the embed below.

Written and directed by Macon Blair, The Toxic Avenger is a contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s 1984 cult classic of the same name created by Lloyd Kaufman. This film features a stellar ensemble, led by Peter Dinklage in the title role, that includes Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon.

Wood’s makeup transformation into villainous Fritz Garbinger set the Internet ablaze when it was revealed last week, with Blair describing the look as “sort of Riff Raff from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the Danny DeVito Penguin mixed together.” (Get a look at Wood and the other cast in the gallery below.)

According to the official synopsis, Blair’s film “follows the story of struggling everyman-janitor Winston Gooze, who is transformed by a horrible toxic accident into a new evolution of hero: The Toxic Avenger!

Now with super-human strength and wielding a glowing mop for his unconventional weapon, he must race against time to save his son and stop a ruthless and power-hungry corporate tyrant bent on harnessing toxic superpowers to strengthen his polluted empire.”

The Toxic Avenger is produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Lloyd Kaufman, and Michael Herz. The executive producers are Andrew Pfeffer, Jay Ashenfelter, and Macon Blair with casting by Mark Bennett and Julie Harkin.

The talent behind the camera includes director of photography, Dana Gonzalez; production designer Alexander Cameron; editors Brett W. Bachman and James Thomas; visual effects supervisor Chris Ritvo; costume designer Vanessa Porter; with music by Will Blair and Brooke Blair.

The Toxic Avenger had its world premiere at this month’s Fantastic Fest. In her Toxic Avenger review, IGN’s Amelia Emberwing said the film “manages to be quite heartwarming: At the end of the day, it’s just about a dad trying to win over his son. Sure, maybe he does a murder now and again, but all of that is in the spirit of self-defense or the protection of his family. And OK, maybe that one guy was just a huge jerk. But if you were shot, dumped in toxic waste, and became a lumpy oddball with super-strength and corrosive piss, you’d probably be pretty cranky too!”
