Thomas Crown Affair Is Getting Remade for the Third Time, This Time With Michael B Jordan Starring and Directing

Michael B. Jordan has reportedly been tapped to direct and star in Amazon MGM Studios’ The Thomas Crown Affair.

Details on Jordan’s second directing gig come from Deadline, which says he picked up the job following the announcement that he would appear on screen in 2016. The Black Panther and Creed actor will also produce through his Outlier Society banner alongside Elizabeth Raposo. Amazon has plans to bring The Thomas Crown Affair to theaters globally, though no release date has been shared yet.

The Thomas Crown Affair’s origins in film date back to the ’60s with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway’s movie of the same name. It follows the titular Thomas Crown (McQueen), a wealthy businessman who orchestrates an impressive heist but meets his match when an insurance investigator (Dunaway) picks up on his trail. A reboot starring Pearce Brosnan and Rene Russo premiered in 1999. No plot details on Jordan’s take have been revealed, and Deadline says the team’s next mission is to pick his co-star.

Iron Man 3, The Fall Guy, and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation writer Drew Pearce wrote the project’s script, with previous drafts handled by Wes Tooke (Midway) and Justin Britt-Gibson (The Strain). Other producers include Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff, with original Thomas Crown Affair writer Alan Trustman attached as an executive producer.

Jordan is best known for his work in front of the camera but has dipped his toes into directing work in the past with last year’s boxing success, Creed 3, a film we gave an 8/10. The star’s work on the film left audiences impressed, as he’s already been picked to return as director on what will eventually become Creed 4.
