Thunderbolts* First Official Clip Shows Stunts, First Look at the Team Together – SDCC 2024

After a long silence, Marvel Studios has provided a much-needed update to the upcoming MCU film Thunderbolts*.

At SDCC 2024, fans were treated with the first clip for Thunderbolts* showing lots of stunts, as well as a look at the team all together during the Marvel Studios panel.

In the clip shown in Hall H, we see Yelena knocking on Alexi’s door at night. She asked if he feels fulfilled, and he says, “So filled,” before asking why she’s come. “There is something wrong with me. An emptiness.” We see Yelena throwing herself into her work, killing people, fighting with John Walker and Ghost. There’s a brief look at Lewis Pullman’s character who introduces himself just a “Bob” and then a lot of cool stunt scenes, explosions, and Yelena jumping off a building. There’s a lot of playful arguing between Yelena and Alexi, and the entire group in an elevator as well as in a car.

Thunderbolts* was announced in June 2022 and focuses on a group of antiheroes sent on missions for the United States government. It will serve as the conclusion to Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thunderbolts* features an ensemble cast, including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barns / Winter Solider, Wyatt Russell as John Walker / U.S. Agent, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and David Harbour as Red Guardian.

Marvel has kept a tight lip on Thunderbolts before today’s panel. Last March, Pugh shared a first look at her character’s costume in the upcoming film. Additionally, at CinemaCon last month, Kevin Feige revealed that the film’s title included an asterisk but would not elaborate further on the reason for the subtle title change. Some theorize that including the asterisk implies that the Thunderbolts team may become the Dark Avengers.

Thunderbolts* will hit theatres on May 2, 2025. For more news relating to SDCC 2024, check out our roundup, where we provide frequent updates on all the news and announcements coming out of the convention daily.
