Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery – Cast, First Image, And Everything Else To Know

Blanc is back

Following the successful Knives Out and its sequel Glass Onion, a third entry in the whodunnit series from writer-director Rian Johnson is coming. The film is titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, and it’s set for release next year on Netflix.

Following a string of initial reports, Netflix has now confirmed the cast and revealed a first-look image of detective Beniot Blanc (Daniel Craig). With the movie now in production, we’re rounding up everything we know about Wake Up Dead Man so far.

We will continue to update this gallery in the days, weeks, and months leading up to the film’s eventual release in 2025.

For some context and background, the Knives Out series debuted in 2019 as a theatrical release from John Wick and Hunger Games movie studio Lionsgate. However, Netflix later snapped up the rights to make two Knives Out sequels, paying a reported $469 million. Craig and Johnson will reportedly each earn $100 million for the sequels.

While the Knives Out film series is now a Netflix exclusive, you may not necessarily have to subscribe to watch it. Glass Onion had a limited theatrical release, and Wake Up Dead Man might as well. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

What is Wake Up Dead Man about?

Wake Up Dead Man is the third Knives Out film, and it will be another whodunnit murder mystery. The movie only just started production in June 2024, so it’s still early days. A safe guess is that Blanc will be called back to solve another crime. If the third movie is anything like the first two, there will be many twists and turns before the mystery is solved, and not everything may be as it seems. The first Knives Out took place at a New England mansion, while the second film was set on a beautiful island in Greece. There is no word yet on the setting or story for Wake Up Dead Man, however. According to Johnson, the film’s title may contain a clue for what to expect. Wake Up Dead Man is also the name of a U2 song, for whatever that’s worth.

“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies,” Johnson said on social media.

Who’s going to be in Wake Up Dead Man?

The first two Knives Out films had impressive ensemble casts, and the third will follow suit. In addition to Craig returning to Blanc, Wake Up Dead Man features a number of big-name actors, including Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, and Jeremy Renner. Craig is confirmed to play Blanc again, but there is no word yet on the other characters. The full cast includes:

Who’s directing Wake Up Dead Man?

Rian Johnson, who directed the first two Knives Out films, returns to write and direct Wake Up Dead Man.

When is Wake Up Dead Man coming out?

Wake Up Dead Man is set for release on Netflix in 2025, but there is no word yet on a specific release date for the film as of yet.
