Ymir Finger Ruins Guide – Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree

A few NPCs in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree ask you to complete tasks for them. One that’s fairly strange is a wizard in a cathedral, whose errands lead you to some unnerving locations. Here’s our guide on how to complete the Ymir Finger Ruins quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.

How to complete the Ymir Finger Ruins quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Finger Ruins and Ymir quest chain has numerous steps, and it’s important that you avoid making mistakes while undertaking these tasks. You’ll also end up heading to various regions. We have a DLC world map guide to help you with various areas in this new realm.

Important: There’s an important action related to the Belurat Tower of Shadow (major spoilers). This part of the campaign counts as a point of no return, causing some NPCs to disappear and quests to end prematurely. We recommend finishing this quest chain before making that crucial decision.

Map: Where to find Ymir and the Cathedral of Manus Metyr

To find Ymir in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you have to make your way to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in the Scadu Altus zone. Here’s a quick summary:

Defeat the boss in Castle Ensis and head to Moorth Ruins to the east. There’s a collapsed building that you can enter, and there are ledges that will break your fall as you drop down.Climb the ladder to reach Bonny Village. Then, continue along the bridges and road leading to the northeast. At the Church District Highroad waypoint, turn south to arrive at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.

Ymir’s spells and the Hole-Laden Necklace

Approach Ymir, who’s sitting on his throne, and he tells you to complete some errands for him. These involve activating the Finger Ruins by using the Hole-Laden Necklace, a quest item that he provides you with. He also gives you a Ruins Map, which has a clue pertaining to the first Finger Ruins that you have to visit.

Note that Ymir also sells some DLC spells, including Glintstone Nail, Glintstone Nails, and Fleeting Microcosm. The next two spells become available upon completion of his tasks.

Map: Finger Ruins of Rhia

The map above shows that route that leads to the Finger Ruins of Rhia. Make sure you know the way or are ready to head to Cerulean Coast in the southern portion of the map.

From Cerulean Coast to the Finger Ruins of Rhia

To complete this step of the Ymir Finger Ruins quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you must follow the road that leads south from the Cerulean Coast Site of Grace.

Go past the dragon overworld boss and look for a marker that has the region map. Then, look to your left. You should see a narrow path next to a fallen mausoleum. Proceed through the path and the beach, which has a bunch of Creepy Hands enemies.

Finger Ruins of Rhia rewards

Past the beach, there’s another Site of Grace. Beyond it is the Finger Ruins of Rhia. Watch out for the Creepy Hands, as well as the Paralyzing Pointers–they look like pointer/index fingers, and they can paralyze you from a mile away.

At the center of the region is a curious-looking rock. Interact with it and use the Hole-Laden Necklace to receive the Crimson Seed Talisman +1. It’s a new DLC talisman that increases the HP you restore when using flasks.

When you return to Ymir, he also gives you the following:

Beloved Stardust (talisman) – Shortens casting speed for sorcery and incantations by the utmost, but increases damage taken.Another Ruins Map – This time, you have to go to the northeast.

Map: Finger Ruins of Dheo and Rabbath’s Rise

The next step if you want to finish the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Finger Ruins quest for Ymir is to head all the way to the northeast, which is actually a secret zone. You can learn more about this place in our Scaduview/Hinterlands guide.

As an aside, you might want to visit the Shaman Village later on. There’s a hidden path that leads to the top of Rabbath Rise, and it’s an important location to check out once you’ve concluded the quest chain.

Finger Ruins of Dheo rewards

Anyway, assuming you’ve gained access to the northeastern region of the map, it’s time to head to the center of the Finger Ruins of Dheo.

Again, use the Hole-laden Necklace when interacting with the giant rock. This nets you the Cerulean Seed Talisman +1, which increases the amount of FP you restore when consuming a flask.

Sidetracked: Swordhand of Night Jolan

Before we continue with the rest of the steps regarding the Ymir Finger Ruins quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, we want to discuss a certain NPC. You’ve probably noticed a woman clad in pure-black armor who’s just chilling in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. She’s Night Jolan, Ymir’s personal bodyguard. Be sure to talk to her and exhaust all dialogue.

Important: Ymir’s throne

If you’ve already obtained the reward from the Finger Ruins of Dheo, then it’s time to return to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Ymir will now sell the awesome Fleeting Microcosm spell. Likewise, he’ll give you the third ruins map… which surprisingly looks like the layout of the cathedral.

To access this secret area, simply pass the time via a Site of Grace until it’s evening. Doing so causes Ymir to disappear from his throne. When you interact with the throne, it will move to reveal a hidden ladder.

Note: We’ve noticed that Ymir can also disappear before completing the task at the Finger Ruins of Dheo. If you interact with the throne too early, it might break the quest.

Finger Ruins of Miyr and Night Anna

Climb down the ladder and you’ll find yourself in an underground chamber called the Finger Ruins of Miyr (an anagram of Ymir). You’ll also get attacked by Night Anna. Defeating her nets you the Claws of Night weapon.

Note that Night Anna still attacked us even though we’ve interacted with her puppet in Rabbath Rise. As of the time of this writing, we can’t confirm if there’s a way to prevent her from being hostile.

Metyr Mother of Fingers boss fight

Now, it’s time to use the Hole-laden Necklace on the large rock in the ruins beneath the cathedral. This transports you to a faraway zone, which looks a bit like the arena where you fought Astel Naturalborn of the Void or the Elden Beast in the base game.

Apart from wide area-of-effect explosions and black hole bombardments, Metyr also summons Creepy Hands to annoy you to no end. If you want to learn about the rewards, you can check our boss Remembrances guide.

Battles and rewards: Swordhand Night Jolan and Ymir

After defeating Metyr, return to the cathedral and attempt to interact with the throne once more. Doing this will cause Night Jolan to invade.

Once she’s defeated, Ymir will appear and attack you. He casts a few Glintstone-type spells, and summons several Creepy Hands. Likewise, he can teleport or encase himself in stone to avoid damage. Beating him nets you the following:

Ymir’s Bell Bearing – Exchange this at Roundtable Hold so you can purchase the spells that Ymir was selling beforehand.Complete High Priest armor setMaternal Staff weapon – Has Str E, Int D, and Arc C scaling; has Str 7, Int 11, and Arc 16 requirements.Cherished Fingers spell – Go to the graveyard outside the cathedral to pick up this spell.

The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Ymir Finger Ruins quest is concluded, but there are more rewards to obtain. We detail these in the next sections.

The Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation

After the battle against Ymir, you’ll notice Jolan slumped by the pillar in the cathedral. If you want to earn rewards, you must obtain the Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation in Shadow Keep.

If you give her the Iris of Grace, you’ll receive the Swordhand of Night Jolan summon. If you give her the Iris of Occultation, you’ll receive the Sword of Night katana.

On paper, the Sword of Night seems cool. However, the summon actually leads to a certain upgrade, which you can acquire in the Shaman Village/Rabbath Rise.

Note: The Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation can also be given to Fireknight Queelign in Shadow Keep.

Sidetracked: Shaman Village to Rabbath Rise

Remember what we mentioned about the Shaman Village in Scaduview/Hinterlands? Well, if you check the cliffside area at the back, you’ll notice ledges that allow you to head further down. Scale the cliffs carefully until you’re close enough to Rabbath Rise. Use Torrent to double jump and you should reach the topmost floor.

Sidetracked: Puppet of Anna and the secret summon

Inside the chamber, you’ll see a Puppet of Anna (the same Anna that you fought in the underground Finger Ruins). Interact with the puppet. If you have the Swordhand of Night Jolan summon, it will be upgraded into the Jolan and Anna summon. Basically, you can call on both warrior sisters to help you in battle!

That does it for our guide on how to complete the Ymir Finger Ruins quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Don’t forget that you must complete all the steps before you unseal the Belurat Tower of Shadow. Apart from this, there are other NPC quests involving Leda and Thiollier.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree takes you to the Realm of Shadow where you have to search for Miquella the Empyrean. If you’re looking for more tips and tactics, you can head over to our guides hub.
