Zone of Interest Streaming Release Date Revealed for Max

Director Johnathan Glazer’s Oscar-winning World War II-era film The Zone of Interest has set a Max release date of April 5, 2024, the streaming service announced today.

It’s a date that will bring the acclaimed feature to subscribers at no extra charge in less than a month. Those who can’t wait to see how it offers a spine-chilling perspective on the Holocaust can also pay to watch it on Amazon Prime Video as well as Apple TV+ now.

The Zone of Interest follows Rudolf Höss, played by Christian Friedel, and his wife Hedwig, played by Sandra Huller. The A24 film allows viewers to peek into the window of the couple’s seemingly perfect lives as they go about their days living next to a Holocaust concentration camp. Glazer released the picture to the masses last year.

“The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig,” an official description from A24 says, “strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.”

The April release date arrives just after The Zone of Interest managed to walk away from the 96th-annual Oscars awards ceremony with two wins out of its five nominations. The categories that saw it emerge victorious were International Feature Film and Best Sound. It received a nod for Best Picture but lost out to Christopher Nolan’s towering biopic, Oppenheimer.

We called Glazer’s latest “starkly horrifying, sickening, and monstrous,” giving it a 9/10 in our review. We added, “More than just a reflection on the so-called “banality of evil,” it is a formally precise yet completely shattering cinematic intervention into the history of the medium itself. From the sound design to the score by Mica Levi, it is like a waking nightmare that only grows more disquieting the longer it goes on.”
