The PlayStation Plus Game Catalog is expanding in May, and this month, players can look forward to one of the most critically acclaimed sequels of all time, social stealth, and survival on a harsh alien world. All of these titles will be available starting May 21, and for anyone looking for some retro fun, new classic titles are coming to PlayStation Plus Premium as well.
Additionally, the free games in May for PlayStation Plus Essential are also available right now, and subscribers can add EA Sports FC 24, Tunic, Ghostrunner 2, and Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion to their library. Here’s a closer look at everything available this month, starting with a re-release of one of the finest titles from Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4)
A prequel to the 2010 game, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a sprawling tale of survival set in a harsh frontier. With the lawless era of the Old West coming to a close and the influence of civilization growing larger, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde Gang find themselves on the run from federal offices in this gigantic open-world game. Red Dead Online, the multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2, is also included, although this mode has received no major updates since 2022 as Rockstar began focusing its efforts on GTA 6.
Deceive Inc. (PS5)
A multiplayer game of social stealth and subterfuge, Deceive Inc. casts you as a secret agent armed with gadgets to help you gain the upper hand. Blend into a crowd, use every trick in the book, and extract the package before your competition can in this online game of espionage.
The Sims 4: City Living (PS4)
Sims 4 players can add some metropolitan content to the game in this expansion. Your Sims can explore an urban city and its colorful neighborhoods, or you can enrich their lives with a tour of local street performances and inner-city competitions.
Crime Boss: Rockay City (PS5)
Crime Boss: Rockay City is not a good game and is best described as a Payday 2 clone stuffed with celebrities who you might remember. A co-op first-person shooter where groups of four embark on heists, the game can also be played solo. As a positive, the game does feature a self-righteous and sword-wielding sheriff voiced by Chuck Norris. That’s got to count for something, right?
The Settlers: New Allies (PS4)
A strategy game with a story-driven campaign, The Settlers: New Allies went through numerous delays before it was finally released in 2023. With a slower pace and a much simpler approach to city-building, reviews for the game have been mixed and it has an aggregate score of 54 on GameSpot’s sister site, Metacritic.
Stranded: Alien Dawn (PS5 and PS4)
Stranded on an alien world, it’s up to you to guide a small group of survivors in this strategic gameplay. You’ll need to protect your marooned group from the elements, starvation, disease, extreme weather, and more, surviving and eventually thriving as you build camps and explore this dangerous new world.
Cat Quest (PS4)
Cat Quest 3 releases in August, and you can catch up on the series this month with both the first game and its sequel. The original Cat Quest has you exploring the massive continent of Felingard in search of your catnapped sister, and this adventure is pretty cute.
Cat Quest 2 (PS4)
For the sequel, the 2D open-world action-RPG of Cat Quest 2 saw it build on the tale of an ongoing war between the cats of Felingard and the advancing dogs of the Lupus Empire. You can play as either a cat or a dog as you explore their kingdoms in solo mode or with a friend in local co-op for this new adventure.
The Lego Movie 2 Videogame (PS4)
Lego video games might be predictable, but they’re still fun and safe games to have installed, especially when you’re looking to keep younger members of the family occupied. In this sequel, it’s up to up to Emmet and his heroic friends to master their building skills and save their friends from the strange inhabitants of the Systar System.
Watch Dogs (PS4)
Another re-release on PS Plus this month, Ubisoft’s hacktivist open-world game is still a lot of fun. Set in a dystopian version of Chicago, the deadliest weapon in your arsenal isn’t a gun but rather a smartphone that can be used to give you real-time control over the city’s infrastructure and turn anything connected to the online grid into a potential weapon.
2Xtreme (PlayStation Premium Classics)
PlayStation Premium subscribers can check out three new retro games this month as part of the Classics section of the Game Catalog. First up is 2Xtreme, an extreme game all about extreme sports. Snowboarding, mountain biking, and skateboarding activities are all available in this globetrotting game, and this version has been enhanced with increased rendering quality, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters.
G-Police (PlayStation Premium Classics)
In a city where crime is on the rise, the only solution is a heavily armed gunship that can be used to take out airborne gangsters. Take on the dangerous criminal element terrorizing your city and prowl the skyline in this PlayStation classic. It’s no Urban Strike, but it’s still a fun game.
Worms Pinball (PlayStation Premium Classics)
Worms, but pinball! With extra objectives, transparent ramps, and more elements being used to give the traditional game of pinball a fascinating makeover, this is an explosive blast from the past for Worms fans.
