Netflix is reportedly no longer pursuing plans for its live-action Power Rangers series.
The show is no longer moving forward after more than two years of work, according to information that was first shared by @Jinsakuu on X/Twitter and later corroborated by TVLine. Hasbro is now said to be looking to take the series in a new creative direction with a new partner.
In 2020, Hasbro announced that I’m Not Okay With This co-creator Jonathan Entwistle would oversee a new connected universe of Power Rangers movies and TV shows. Daisy & the Six co-executive producer and Supernatural story editor Jenny Klein was previously attached as showrunner for the now-canceled show. It’s unclear if she will remain attached to the project if and when it reemerges.
IGN has reached out to Netflix and Hasbro for comment.
Netflix’s relationship with the Power Rangers franchise extends past the now-shuttered live-action series. Just last year, the streaming megacorporation released Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once and Always, a one-hour special that brought the return of some familiar Putty-fighting faces. It was a reunion that we didn’t quite fall head over heels for, giving it a 6/10 in our review. At the time we said, “Despite its genuinely emotional story about grief that honors the Yellow Ranger, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always is weighed down by disappointing effects and dialogue, even for Power Rangers.”
